    It's insane, but someone might need this, somewhere, somehow...

    Re: LPT -> USB

    Why would someone need to do something that doesn't work?

    Or are you just giving lessons in futility?
    A third party security audit is the IT equivalent of a colonoscopy. It's long, intrusive, very uncomfortable, and when it's done, you'll have seen things you really didn't want to see, and you'll never forget that you've had one.

      I'm pretty sure this is a joke. The few USB/PS2 adapter shown are designed for PS/2 Serial, not parallel/LPT and were pretty much just for specific devices like a mouse or a keyboard. Just because DB25 is available for Serial and Parallel for different plugs does not mean adapters will work as expected or can be interchanged for Serial and Parallel. Additionally, many DB25/DB9 cables/adapters for serial are not pinned with conductors for all of the pins, while DB25 for LPT require many more pins for proper function. [Edit: Following the link, you can see several other arguments in the comments as for this being a joke/hoax.]

      I am reminded of a Futurama episode where Morbo and the "pretty but dumb human female"(Linda) are providing news stories. One of the stories is about how global warming and heat is killing life in Netherlands (or somewhere else with windmills):

      Linda: I’m sure those windmills will keep them cool.
      Morbo: Windmills do not work that way! Good night!

        that quote gets shouted at our house with greater frequency than one would normally expect.

        it elicits laughter every time.
        "I'll admit I had an OiNK account and frequented it quite often… What made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store… iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

          I smell a new HHV contest coming on....despite the fact that i also can see the winning solution being described on a single slide:

          Step 1: Acquire all said connectors
          Step 2: ....
          Step 3: Win!

            Re: LPT -> USB

            I have a box of stuff here that might very well have all of the requisite parts. I'd definitely choose a lower-power USB stick for the job, however, as Sandisk Cruzers have a mighty thirst for power.
