If you can book under the rate, please try to. I understand cash is tight, so do what is best.

Our over all costs at the hotel are heavily influenced by how many hotel room nights the group picks up.

Tried to price the defcon room rate via the special website only to be told 8-3 to 8-8 exceeded the maximum allowable stay time....

Sounds like the error I found when javascript is not enabled for the right sites:

When checking for room costs, it appears they require you have javascript enabled for the domain "totalrewards.com" or else you get this error:

Also, you can try calling them on the phone, as that has worked when the website reservations failed.

I would recommend this approach, as there is much more flexibility when speaking with a live person. or booking via the link on the DEFCON main page and then calling to make any changes you feel to be needed.

I have yet to actually get through to reservations via the phone. I now have a list of TEN phone numbers, and am beginning to consider staying at a quieter place, with a person on the other end of the phone. Before anyone who doesn't know me feels the need to ask whether I've done all the obvious things, I've even talked to Caesar's directly (the owners of the Rio, apparently), who forwarded me on to someone, who forwarded me on to the same non-working numbers.

By non-working I mean that after I get through with the instant-rage-making stupid system (where you have to talk to it, like that won't piss me off even more than pushing buttons), and finally get to the part where it's supposed to have a person on the other end, I get a recording that says that option's not available, or a fast busy, or any number of other things that makes me want to go with a more pleasant place.

Honestly, DT, I'm trying to support your preference for people making reservations within the block in order to keep costs down, but I'm close to giving up.

Why yes, I *do* need more coffee. How could you tell?

I enabled javascript and followed your suggestions previously and still got it. NBD however, I was only doing some price research. I will try again another time and double check to ensure no steps are missed. Still, sort of ridiculous that so much effort must be made to have a website work properly......

Calling, for me, is a bit difficult as business hours in the US are a very slim window of opportunity for me in Singapore, either extremely early in the morning (5 am-7 am depending on US time zone) or quite late at night to catch an operator in the States.
Not complaining, just stating a fact. I can, and have, made calls to the States if necessary. It's just annoying.

No block rate rooms left on Thursday night as of 6/2. Any chance of getting more rooms added to the block?

As of right now, no group rates available Thursday, Friday or Saturday nights.

Try priceline or other sites, you will save a bunch over the so-called group price.

Best deal I can come up with for staying at the Rio:

You have to book 4 nights, Staying Sunday night makes it cheaper

                            IRSL4 $599.20 plus tax

What is funny is the 3 night promo code IRSL3 makes it $637.60.

Both prices beat what William Shatner can do for me. On a related note it seems rooms are now ridiculously cheap at the Riviera for $62 a night.

Unverified but I was told that the Gold Coast (across the street basically) is $45 a night.
