A security-focused group is forming at CSU. The first meeting last night went well and was attended by 15-20 people. We discussed topics for future meetings, demonstrated a simple buffer overflow, did a very brief into to lockpicking, and a bit of no-tech hacking with the guest wireless access codes that were left in the room!
As of yet, we have not discussed the idea of becoming "DC970-1" officially, but something is at least getting going here finally rather than the random over-lunch type meetings that have happened in the past. We'll be looking into whether we form an official Defcon group in future meetings.
If anyone in the area is interested, CSU has an open organization policy and members of the community are welcome. Send me a PM and I will get you the information that you need.
