    Re: Hacker Footwear

i made it late this year and ended up couch surfing but it was better then not going... i wore my 5 fingers the whole weekend . carpets are plush so these were not bad .

then again i like to be as close to barefoot as possible .. to the degree that 'm considering starting footie con next year . since we had drunk con.. in CP's room, and coffee-con in Solomons..

I like 'All Terrain' New Balance 461 shoes

"The rugged, durable, lightweight 461 has an aggressive lugged outsole for off-road traction and a midsole that provides superior cushioning and support. Sporty styling and NB performance make this a versatile option for outdoor activities, whether you're running on trails or traveling at a slower pace. Suitable for those with a neutral gait."

I also wear the Vibram Five Fingers KSOs, as much as I can. I flew out this year with a pair of black KSO and a pair of black Rockport wingtips for Black Hat but I really never wore the wingtips and walked all over Vegas and all the vendor events with the KSO's.

With the black KSO's If you take a Sharpie to the yellow Vibram stitching, you can sometimes get past TSA with them thinking you have just your socks on.

I spent most of this year walking around in my Red Wing Shoes low-tops and was amazed at how awesome these things are. Just to switch things up for my feet, I wore my New Balance cross trainers a couple of times and they worked out well too.

interesting... do the TSA consider five-finger footwear to be "shoes" more than "socks"? they seem to skirt the line right in-between.

            also, this...

"I'll admit I had an OiNK account and frequented it quite often… What made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store… iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

Well, I have a light lavender pair and an acquaintance who is red/green color-blind sees them as my skin color so he just thinks I have particularly white soles. While looking for how to induce colorblindness in TSA-gremlins (somehow make it mandatory for them to wear some sort of glasses?), I discovered a color-blindness simulator so you can design webpages etc. better for colorblind people.

http://colororacle.cartography.ch/ (haven't tried it out though.. might later today).

I have yet to run into the top TSO at ORD for an 'unofficial' ruling but I have witnessed a few toe shoes walking though at some of the airports I frequent. the sharpie to the stitching was recommended to me when I bought them.

I did spend a good amount of time in the Rio and Palm's taxi line talking about toe shoes from people being bored and looking at my feet.

                  Re: Hacker Footwear

I feel like im going to get a lot of shit for these, but in the wintertime...
I have a really nice pare of brown boots from Calvin Klein. They've got this zipper on the side...so you know I gotta freak that shit with the zippers down. Unless there's hella snow outside, (I'm in chicagagago a lot) in which case zip up.

Right now though I just bought two pairs of Toms ( www.Toms.com ).
Toms rule. They're super comfy, they "go" with anything according to my ladyfriends, they're like 50 bucks and, most importantly, every pair you buy, they donate a pair to kids in third world countries who don't have shoes. They actually just started selling glasses too, and then donate half of the money to people who need eye surgery and can't afford it.
                  ...
No I don't work for toms, they're just...cool as fuck.

I've got cons, and I wear them till they fall off me feet...that's how you're supposed to freak them.

I WANT a pair of those toe shoes, I need to get them at a store though cause I want them to fit right.
With the exception of those boots and toms, I don't really care about shoes. When I was more into the punk scene I always wanted a pair of orange or blue docs, but they're mad expensive.

                  Also first post. :)
