  • CFV (Call For Victims)

My talk was approved, and for this to work I need audience members to bring devices that can connect to a Wi-Fi network. I will send a flood of IPv6 Router Advertisements into that network to see what effect it has. I know this will freeze Windows 7 and FreeBSD machines. I have unconfimed reports that Android G1 phones, Playstations, and Xboxes are also vulnerable, but I don't have those devices to test.

Please bring your devices to test! We may make exciting discoveries on the spot!

Details of my talk are here:

Happy to see you will be presenting at Defcon19.

Your talk at LayerOne 2011 was terrific!

Any preference on OS version for the G1/HTC Dream?

        Re: CFV (Call For Victims)

One student told me it went down, but I was unable to test it again to make sure. I assume he had the default version, with whatever updates go on automatically, if any.

That's why I am doing this--I want to test a LOT of devices and versions, and I need help. I am way out of touch with consumer electronics, but I suspect a lot of it is vulnerable.

Thanks! I am looking forward to it--the demo attacking the audience will be exciting, and I am really happy to have a guest expert speak about defense. The Layer One audience correctly said my defenses were weak & old--I need help learning how to stop this stuff.

But that seems to be the state of the art: attack > defense, a target-rich environment.

And one thing RSnake told me last year was very wise--have another speaker there to talk while my demos fail and I am fixing them. Nothing serious went wrong at Layer One, so I am happy with my new rule of never trusting virtual machines.
