Any other cons of interest going on during the week of Defcon?

In Vegas or elsewhere? You can't make it to Vegas and need some alternatives or Defcon isn't enough activity for you ?

The biggest mistake I feel that Defcon attendees make, and the key to surviving Defcon, at least for me is getting away from the hotel. I live breath technology 24/7, so if I find myself in a beautiful place with lots of cool stuff to do I like to check out other things.

The con in itself is waaay to big to deal with, you just end up over cooking your brain and leaving with nothing. Old age and wisdom have taught me everything in moderation. :-)

In addition when Rollercon would coincide with Defcon it lessened the sausage fest factor, so that was nice to.

i always toss this out when similar threads happen, regarding "other places to go during Black Hat & DEFCON"... it's not a super show or amazing bar, just one of the best places for food in an economical, fast, and decent way.

The "777 Special" is a hidden deal at Mister Lucky's which is located in the Hard Rock. It's a steak, veggie platter, mashed potatoes... all decent-sized and all for $7.77

That same place also has something like a $10 unlimited prime rib special. King Tuna had that once when we went there for the 777 and he seemed to really like it. It wasn't outstanding, mind you, but they were as good as their word... they kept bringing him slabs of meat over and over (i think he plowed down like 4 of them at least) as long as we sat there.

A similar offer (a hidden menu item, only available if you ask) is also sold at the Ellis Island casino's restaurant. If you don't mind slumming your way across town to that toilet, i suppose it's worth it perhaps.

This applies less to folk at DEFCON than at Black Hat. The Caesar's dining options are all pretty miserable from an economic standpoint. The food court is the only half-decent shot you have at a lunch under $10, and even then it's a crapshoot. (The Mexican place isn't super awful, and may be your best bet if you aren't able or allowed to leave the hotel for some reason)

But yeah, check out the 777 deal... preferably on a night that does NOT coincide with their "Rehab Pool Party" unless you want to mingle with crowds of women who would be rejected from VH-1 reality dating shows amid a cloud of Axe Body Spray.
"I'll admit I had an OiNK account and frequented it quite often… What made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store… iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

          Speaking of RollerCon...

RollerCon 2011 is July 27th - 31st at the RIVIERA Casino & Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada.
          ROLLERCON 2011 PASSES
          STILL AVAILABLE:
          Skater Passes $129
          Spectator Passes $109
RC’10 Volunteer Staff Discounted Passes $79
          Missed it by THAT much....!

Some sort of "bikers" convention(motorcycle, not bicycle) during the same weekend at the Vegas Speedway. Biker chicks and geeks, do they go together?
