If you can give me a small writeup about the BloodKode Challenge, I'll make sure we make a special announcement at DC101 about it for all the n00bs ( who probably don't read the forums).

I think the most concise information is the 1st post in this thread. It has all the details I think except the update on it being on Friday noon-5PM also I would stress for them to head over to the be the match booth that is the main goal for BarKode. Thanks for the support ~:-)

Red Cross is, unfortunately, not actually the best way to get blood directly to Barkode or directly to replace blood used from a Kaiser blood bank for Barkode. I hope that part is already worked out with Red Cross for the DefCon blood drive. Otherwise, it will make quite a few people pretty unhappy. Just giving blood is great but if it's set up as FOR BARKODE and it doesn't get to him in some fashion it will be disappointing to say the least. Jayson, have to set that up with the van ahead of time?

After doing some research here is what I have found:

1. Red Cross doesn't let you do a patient specific donation unless you have a note from the patient's doctor directing them to hold the blood for said patient.

2. Kaiser Permanente run's their own blood donation centers and *WILL* allow you to donate specifically for someone without a doctor's note. Ideally you will provide the patient's full name, date of birth, and medical record number but they can look him up with just name and DOB.

3. If you plan to donate blood on Friday be sure *NOT* to exert yourself, booze yourself stupid, or do other things that put you at risk for waking up to me glaring down at you because I just had to do a thoracic rub and/or give you CPR and call the paramedics.

NOTE: A thoracic rub is not very fun either. Avoid it if possible. It really really hurts. No really. It does. Don't believe me? Ask Sqweek. Or volunteer to have one done to you by me, Nobody, or Archlight.

i had some trouble with the Red Cross today... telling me that in order to do a directed donation i need a prescription from the recipient's doctor, which is then taken to a pharmacy and turned into a Donor Tag and then that is brought to the donation site.

lots of steps, boy... and here my cutout of Barkode and i were all ready to take some photos.

I will be donating tomorrow and will register as a marrow donor. It will be a kick if BarKode has *MY* blood in his veins! I wonder if the N00B and blood of virgins will help or hurt him...? I will also get a photo of him with me if I can to kick that thread off.

I will not be entering the raffle though since I am staff and it wouldn't be right.

But perhaps there is something you can come up with where I can do something as a part of hitting the 300 person goal? Dunk tank, behind the scenes tour of DC with me as the tour guide, throw tomatoes at me, etc...

I can't do a Mohawk because I am a participant in Saint Baldrick's Day and thus will have little to no hair for you to shave I am afraid.

~:-( maybe we can just have someone there during that time directing them to The be the match booth. We can let them know it is a long term solution for BarKode and less painful.

If they are really upset about it we can stick them like a pincushion then send them over to the be the match booth ~;-)

1. We have the blood drive scheduled from 12 – 5pm on Friday august 5th

2. If you notice it is only a 5 hour window so PLEASE do not wait till DEFCON donate now!

3. SecurityBarbie brings up once again a very important point that it's not about a contest but helping out an awesome guy!

4. Please remember that the #BloodKode challenge blood drive is a short term fix. BarKode needs a bone marrow transplant to get well.

Great idea, but I don't need a contest.

I'm on the list, and have been a blood donor since I was 17. I hope all the efforts help Matt, I'll do anything else that I can do to help.
