I like to think of Defcon as being in a perpetual state of both on schedule, and canceled. The only way to know for sure is to show up. It’s the “Schrödinger's Cat” of the convention world.

Defcon is actually an elaborate troll by the infosec community to fabricate the appearance of a conference in order draw a bunch of unsuspecting suckers to Las Vegas only to have them find Defcon is cancelled as part of an involuntary flashmob.
