  • In regards to the classic DEFCON logo

    I can't seem to locate high resolution images of the classic DEFCON logo (the classic the circular icon logo with the disk the rotary dialer and the jolly smiley roger). I've tried all the usual places but have come up empty handed. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could obtain them (vector graphics would be awesome but I'm not picky). I had an idea for a wallpaper and would love to use it across most of my devices. Anyway thank you ahead of time

    We did the Beverage Cooling Contraption Contest shirts for DC 18 and I think we got one from Neil. I'll bet you a ham sandwich Cot will know for sure, though. :lol:

        Re: In regards to the classic DEFCON logo

        I do not have a copy of this, but I kind of remember what it looked like if we are thinking of the same image. It was done in an early 90's style with no layers, transparency-merges, lots of straight-lines and edges, with very, very few colors (like 2 to 4 colors with black and white each being one color.) I've tried to re-make a copy that looked kind of like what I remembered, in a style found in images from the early 90's and web design:

        This is not it, but it looked kind of like this:

        failed attempt to duplicate style of image I remember

        If anyone had the actually high-res version of this from early Defcon, I would go with Neil.

        Also, it would probably be good to modernize this image from a 1x3 to a 3x3 and include other images:
        * Lockpicking
        * Hardware design/hacking
        * Ninja/Samurai/Pirate (Stealthy attacks, Intelligent Defense, Parties)
        * Network/Firewall/Wireless
        * Teacher/Student/Speaking Tracks/Books/Information
        * more

          Well I know at least n+1 person has it since I'm looking down at the simplified graphics on my lanyard lol (which are the ones I want). I can try to make additional icons....I can only imagine the level of fail though haha.

            Re: In regards to the classic DEFCON logo

            Seems like every year I see this line in the art contest rules - "Use of the DEF CON logos is allowed, but will not be provided by DEF CON."

            Don't know if that means Neil won't help you, but it doesn't look like your chances are fantastic. ;) Personally, I'd just grab an old art entry and re-draw the images from that. A lot of the entries were pretty high res and had the logos on them.

              This actually leads me to something I asked about on here years ago (good luck finding it) where I asked DT if the old artwork (specifically the shirts) would ever be available for people to recreate thier favorite old shirt thats had one too many washings or other artwork to remix into *whatever*

              I recall he indicated he was cool with it but nothing came about. In light of DC20 next year, might be an idea

                If there is a fear of distribution, there is exactly two people who will touch the file: myself, and the etching guy. And the etching guy doesn't strike me as the Defcon sort.
