I was thinking about some of the DC contests that I've seen over the past four years that I've been at the con, and I don't know why this never struck me before, but there is an obvious opportunity for a simple contest that maybe someone would want to add in the future. What do hackers/coders do more than anything? They type. Why isn't there some sort of typing contest? There have got to be a lot of coders out there who can do well over 100 wpm. If I can do that (which I can), some of the con attendees who actually work at keyboards have to be a lot faster.
Maybe there could be a couple different sub-contests. Maybe a straightforward contest in the kids section, that adheres to normal typing standards. And maybe a tougher one for the regular hackers, that involves replicating code instead of text paragraphs, to make it more challenging. Or maybe a third category where participants (over the age of 21, of course) have to down a couple shots of tequila before the test.
Just a thought.
