    Too early to know?

Too early to know, but likely not 24-hour access. Rio will likely make us shut down any sort of music between 12-2am. Whether they'll let people hang out there after this though, is hard to say.

On that note - the "chill out" will be in a separate area from B&W this year, and the plan is to have that open 24hrs without interruption.

I doubt 24hour access. The Rio was pretty strick when the pool shut down it was after midnight if i believe correctly but they were smart about it i guess. As we were leaving the 1 night a couple of the rio security was going out to round up the slow pokes. Who needs pool access that late the water gets pretty cold . Hottub access would be better.

The hot tubs were awesome I must say, especially after busting your ass all day. The non 24 hour pool was something that was well noted by the attendees so while they're likely to not give us 24 hour access, I'd put faith that someone somewhere has fought for this at least a little.

or possibly destroying, I haven't figured that out yet.

I noticed when I went to the pool they wanted to see my DEFCON badge to let me in. Does that mean that we own the pool while there, and no other hotel goers can use it? I want to bring family with me but don't plan on them attending Defcon and paying to use the pool sucks.

I remember them asking to see my DC badge at the pool area while something was going on out there, but during the day it was never an issue and at night they just wanted to check my bag for booze.

We will have our own pool. I am not sure how the access control is going to be setup.

I don't think that's confirmed quite yet. Allow me to double-check.

Need to be careful about making unconfirmed statements like these. If so, please include a disclaimer that it's unconfirmed / a rumor.

By way of example, last year someone posted something unofficial/not-confirmed on the forums about when the pool opened last year. I didn't notice their forum post until it was too late, and I ended got slammed with a line of people that I had to turn away at the door. In retrospect, I should have been more clear about such things last year. Lesson learned. =/

That said, it's up in the air. Most recently, I've heard that the pool will be allowed to go until 3AM. <--- and this is not an official statement, and may be subject to change.

Doesn't matter much, if they don't heat the pool's, nobody is really coming...

"From what I was told" was the disclaimer. It may work out differently, but the exact statement to me was '24 hours is the plan, and we WILL have our own.' Please do double check, I would like it confirmed as well. 3AM would be nice too. The pool is F'ing cold anyway at that time.

                        Re: 24 Hour Access?

Yeah, last year we were given bad information about the pool as well. We were assured it would be 24h, then we were assured it would be open late, then at con itself they said it was open, but they kicked everyone out from like 6-7pm for "cleaning" (ie, closed).

So while official word is nice, until we get that word we have to rely on rumors and best guesses. Anyone using forum posts as "official" info is a tard.

Unfortunately, the Hotel does not want people comfortable and happy in the pool, they want you out in the casino gambling. Las Vegas casinos spend huge amounts of money studying methods of keeping people at the gaming tables. Too cold & too warm pool water temperature is just 1 method they use.

What they don't realize is that we have great entertainment thanks to the hard work of GreatScott and the Djs so we will enjoy ourselves no matter what!

                            I'm stealing that disclaimer!!!!!!!!

This just in <nightly news intro music>.

I just got off a conference call with DT+Charel. The latest situation is as follows:

                            1) The pool will not be 24hrs.
                            2) During the day, the pool will be open to both DEF-CON attendees (staying @ hotel or not) and the general public until 6 or 7pm ish.
                            3) Come 6 or 7pm (exact time TBD), pool will close down temporarily for turnover for evening events, and open back up around 7-8pm (exact time TBD).
                            4) The evening pool parties will go from ~8pm to 3am. During this time, the pool will only be open to DEF-CON attendees and there will be badge-checking in effect.
                            5) During the evening pool time/party itself, the music can be in full effect until 12am. It needs to be quieted down from 12am-2am. It needs to be off from 2am-3am, but people can stick around / mill about during this time.
