  • Welcome to April Fools Day on the forums! Any Amusing pranks online?

    Hello everyone!

Here we are on another April Fools Day, and here we have, another April Fools Day thread.

April Fools Day is a day when many people play pranks with claims that are often not true to see if anyone is fooled with such claims. (See the wikipedia article for more comments on April Fools Day.)

Have you found any funny, amusing or interesting April Fools Day pranks online? Do you care to share them with us?

    Happy April Fools Day!

    Let's start this off:

April Fools Day on the forums is now over.

For the next few days, I'll leave up the April Fools "jokes" we had on the forums.

Anyone that visited https://forum.defcon.org/ or https://forum.defcon.org/index.php had their Source IP reviewed for having seen an April Fools Day "joke" since we started this year. If while visiting this URL it was found that your Source IP had not been "pranked" then you would see one of two different "jokes" depending on a modulus 2 of number of seconds since Jan 1, 1970 and when you requested the page.

These were the two offerings this year:

    * Fake error page with fake md5sum hash for password for all admins, with an extra fake admin added. Link at bottom takes user to April Fools Say Thread.
    * AlxRogan's Suggestion: because of MS patch to vulnerable RDP services, a fake login screen for RDP to fake defcon server. It is an image. Click the image and the result is the April Fools thread.

The above links will become "404" in a few days when they are shoved into a backup space on the server.

In a follow-up of April Fools Day jokes, I think Ikea's "left handed allen wrench recall" where you had to visit their store was probably the most clever prank to get people to visit their stores, and maybe buy something. I do wonder if it back-fired at all, though. People that have been manipulated into appearing foolish probably would not be interested in giving money to the "people" that fooled them.

The links to April Fools Day content for 2012 on the forums should now be broken.

Maybe we'll do something again next year.
