  • Workshop this year?

    Hey,

Last year at Defcon 19, I learned way too late that there were some workshops going on (about $200 each). Since some of them seemed quite interesting, I was going to register to one of them for Defcon 20. But I couldn't find any information about it on the site. So are the workshops dropped this year?

    Thanks

we can only fucking hope. but, like many bad ideas that crop up throughout history, they have a way of refusing to die.

this is not a phenomenon unique to hacker cons, of course... but i am hopeful that our community, with its strong instinct for self-correction, will have indeed quashed the workshops for DC 20.

just my (very un-diplomatic, apologies) $0.02. maybe they will be back for another go.
"I'll admit I had an OiNK account and frequented it quite often… What made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store… iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

I think what deviant may have meant to say is : Sure there are workshops at the Lockpick Village, Wireless Village and Hardware Hacking Village. Stop on in and learn something new, make some friends, or help out.
And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts, And I looked and behold: a pale horse. And his name, that sat on him, was Death. And Hell followed with him.

First, thanks guys for your replies. But I have been to the last three Defcons and I know there is training sessions and demos at the three villages (and I have learn quite a few things there).
But what I really meant was something more like last year: https://www.defcon.org/html/defcon-1...workshops.html

I only learn about these workshops directly at Defcon 19 when it was way too late to register. This year, I wanted to see what they had to offert... I was hoping to see something on the official web site saying that they are/aren't returning this year.

So anyone heard what's happening this year about the workshops?

If you've been to the last three DefCon's, then you should know that DefCon is cancelled.

Damn you ! DefCon has not been cancelled. It's been moved to a cooler climate.

DefCon 20 will be held in Toronto Canada this year but the dates remain unchanged. DT finally got sick of the desert heat, like so many others of us.

I think we need to have it at our closest Ecuadorian Embassy.
