This year, we are going to make an experimental attempt to take a requests via YouTube. YouTube allows us to play songs we ordinarily wouldn't have in our library. However, it may fail horribly, because we are attempting to stream songs off the Internet.
HERE ARE THE RULES: (PLEASE READ THEM CAREFULLY IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE)
1) You MUST post the link ON YOUTUBE to the song you wish to sing in this thread. Not on YouTube? NOT ACCEPTABLE. Not a karaoke version of the song? NOT ACCEPTABLE. Not in this thread? NOT ACCEPTABLE. We want you to do the legwork and find a YouTube version of a song you want to sing. IF YOU DO NOT POST YOUR SONG IN THIS THREAD IT WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED AS A YOUTUBE REQUEST.
2) YouTube might FAIL. We have no guarantees this will work and you will get to sing the YouTube song of your choice. If we can't play the YouTube version of your song, we might accomodate a karaoke song of your choice, but basically by being part of the YouTube experiment you *may* be giving up your turn. Fair warning. IF YOU WISH TO PARTICIPATE IN THE YOUTUBE BETA PROGRAM YOU ARE OFFICIALLY WAIVING YOUR RIGHT TO SING A SONG FOR A PARTICULAR KARAOKE ROTATION IF YOUR SONG IS SELECTED AND IT FAILS. (If your song isn't selected you will still be allowed to sing)
3) If YouTube is FAILING, we're not going to stick with it. You are invited to be part of the Hacker Karaoke YouTube Beta Program, but if it isn't working out we will fail fast and cancel the whole thing.
4) Even if it's working we are only going to do ONE YOUTUBE SINGER PER ROTATION and we will select them randomly.
That said, if you are considering attending Hacker Karaoke this year and would like to be considered for the YouTube Beta Program, PLEASE POST YOUR SONG HERE. IF IT IS NOT POSTED HERE YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SING A SONG ON YOUTUBE, SORRY.
WE HAVE A ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY FOR FUCKUPS IN THE YOUTUBE BETA PROGRAM AND IF IT'S NOT WORKING WE ARE JUST GOING TO SKIP YOU AND GO TO THE NEXT PERSON

2) When you arrive at Hacker Karaoke, please write your DC Forums handle as your name, and "YOUTUBE" as the artist. If you wish to request a song for if the YouTube request fails, write it on the rest of the song request slip.
3) We will put all YouTube requests into a hat and draw one randomly. You may be able to put in another song and we won't notice depending on how sober the current DJ is.
If the YouTube program works out well this year, we will be less restrictive and open it up to more people, but for now this is an EXPERIMENT. So please, BE PATIENT.
