  • Aaron Swartz

I feel that we should do something at DefCon 21 to celebrate the life of Aaron Swartz and remember all his contributions to our community.

He was the co-creator of the RSS standard, co-founder of Reddit, creator of the web.py framwork, the list goes on..

    Re: Aaron Swartz

i would definitely support this. only question is, what?

to me, the nicest memorial anyone could ask for would be a gathering of people with an open mic where anyone who wishes can walk up and tell a story or say something positive about them. if we choose to do that in a talk track (maybe the last talk of the day in one of the smaller track rooms?) then the projector would be able to just loop with great photos of said person and their works.

i know if i pass away when DEFCON is still around that's how i'd want to be remembered there. (and i'd insist on folk with lots of open bottles of Woodford and Lagavulin that anyone was free to fill from in order to raise glasses)
"I'll admit I had an OiNK account and frequented it quite often… What made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store… iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."
