For those interested, DT has apparently posted the Defcon room block on the website.

Prices are currently comparable to the advertised "regular rate", although the non-con price is slightly cheaper for the base room with a single bed.

EDIT TO ADD: I should note that the "cheaper" item also fluxes depending on your length of stay. For con weekend, it's currently exactly the same.

Looks like the block does not start until Thursday the 25th. I normally arrive on the 24th so can't use the block rate for 24th - 29th and get a single reservation. Looks like I'll have to either do two separate reservations and hope I don't have to change rooms or book outside the Defcon block.

if you do have 2 separate room reservations, like i did last time even though i had paid for cheaper room in the last few days they tied together all the reservations, so i wouldn't have to move. Just give them a call and let them know. The last thing they want anyways is to have to do a full clean for the same person more then once.

DUH ! It helps to have the right dates. For some reason I thought Defcon was the last weekend in July instead of the first weekend in August. All is right with the world and hotel room book at the Defcon rate for Wednesday 7/31 through Sunday 8/4.

You're doing it wrong -- you're supposed to Defcon (yes, it's a verb now) so hard that you need a day after in Vegas to decompress. ;)

A word of note, so there is no surprise:
For both the 1 Bed and 2 Queen bed "deluxe" suite under the Defcon rates, the price per room is presently same for 1 person or 2 people.

However, each person you add to these rooms beyond 2 adds about $30.00 per night. If you choose 4 people with your registration, then expect to pay $60.00 more per night, as of my check when I posted this.

It may be possible to *claim* only 2 people, but this includes some risks. The most obvious risk is a limit of being issued an initial 2 room card keys. There are probably other risks, but you can check for those on your own, and/or discuss them.

The date has been ever since the end of 20. It was just that the location hadn't been *officially* announced.

I was thinking they might move it back to the AP. *duck*

I am booked at the Rio 7/31 - 8/4 (yes I want the extra day to "unwind" at the end and I learned last year that arriving on Friday = 4 hours in line to get my badge) See you all then. Last year was my first DefCon and I had a blast.

I just booked the room. I strongly encourage you all to do the same soon. The Rio prices go up very significantly once the Defcon conference block runs out and we get closer to the event. Last year, booking the room just 30 days prior to the event, it cost me 3 times what I just paid.

I feel bad for anyone trying to get a room at the Rio now (July 8th), I just checked to compare what I got mine at back in February and rooms for Thu - Fri - Sat are starting at $499 a night now.

i will post here in case some folk didn't see it on Twitter... TOOOL had a huge foul-up with the hotel room reservations this year and there's a mad scramble to find rooms at almost any cost. They will be booking some rooms at the super-fist rate and shoving a lot of staff over at the Gold Coast unless something else works out.
