I love the idea and have been a supporter of defcon having a "party" atmosphere to facilitate "having fun" and "hanging out with your friends".
Some questions:
1) Can we give away booze?
2) Can we give away non-booze? (food, drinks, etc)
3) Can we restrict who can come in? (ie, do an invite-only party)
4) Do we need to card people or provide our own "security" at the door?
5) Will furniture be provided? If we want couches vs bar stools vs open space, etc.
6) How late can we be open? We don't want to invest a bunch of $$$ if we get kicked out at midnight (or whenever).

Ah, I didn't make the call for parties; I was just relaying the announcement. Maybe the organizer(s) will be able to provide you and others with some answers and details.

1- no, this is a contract issue with the hotel.
2-no, this is a contract issue with the hotel. If you are looking to do either on question 1 or 2, you might want to consider a more traditional party with a contract with the hotel. ( corking fees, bartenders, catered food, etc)
3- you can submit that in your proposal, depending on the proposal we may or may not accept it, regardless of if you want invite only or not. We won't exclude your application if you want to be exclusive. ( although, the general spirit of the pub crawl is open to all )
4-no. Because DEF CON will be providing the bartenders in the hallways and they will card before pouring the drinks. However you will need to make sure that attendees are actual con attendees, in order to keep the rif raff out. Although security will be checking badges at a choke point, so it shouldn't be much of an issue.
5- Minimal furniture as the space are very tight as is, so if you are needing anything please submit it in your proposal. If you intend anything like bringing in couches or bean bag chairs then submit it in the proposal, we can always try to adjust and find the best room depending on your floorspace needs.
6- TBD, but it is likely to be until 2am.
It's clear that the policy is "no non-hotel food or drinks".

I still don't think the FAQ answers your previous question, but we may not want to have an answer to that question. Better to ask for forgiveness than permission.
