    *UNOFFICIAL* Toxic BBQ IX

    L0nd0 has asked me to make a post on the Toxic BBQ this year. It will be on 2013/08/01 @ Sunset Park Area F @ 1600-2200 again (lets hear it for consistency).

    I will be working to get the twitter feed and website updated with the information. This will be a transition year with L0nd0 stepping back and me trying to fill in the gaps. Though L0nd0 will be helping me out even if she does not want to.

    Please let me know what I can arrange to make this a better event.

    Have Lond0 give a farewell burlesque style strip tease dance on the picnic tables. For donations of course, always for a good cause.

          As in previous years, I should be able to offer some rides, and help out with food runs.

          Just let me know when and where to meet.
          There are techs that solve problems and there are techs that call other techs to solve problems.

              I've sent an email to EvilMofo who is the primary contact for "HackBus." They have historically provided a fee-based service for many people choosing to ride the HackBus from San Francisco to Las Vegas. Additionally, they have sometimes offered fee-based rides to places like the DEF CON shoot, and Toxic BBQ. I have questions asking about their plans to offer service, and any details they may have for departure times, locations, and any fees to cover gas, wear&tear, insurance, etc. and to keep their bus running.

              He may reply here, or maybe give me permission to include his private replies in public, for him.

              Separate from this, in my experience, all plans to share a seat in a car with other people to this or the DC Shoot with specific people earlier than same-day have failed.

              The only "plan" that has really ever worked with some success is specifying a location and time-range for when people will be gathering with cars to leave for each location, and then directions to anyone that misses this deadline, or finds insufficient seats, suggestions for people to share a cab and cab costs to one location or the other. (A cab to the DC shoot would likely be prohibitively expensive, even if shared.)

              Make sure you understand that the people you ride with to a location may not be the people you leave with from that same location. It would be good to have some idea when your ride will leave the location you are getting a ride to visit, so you can make other plans to get a ride back if you plan to leave at a different time.

                I have had plenty of people ask for and even beg for a seat and never show up. Best to get a ride the day of the event.

                  In an email reply, EvilMofo said there are plans to transport people to the Toxic BBQ, but no plans to transport anyone to the DEF CON Shoot on Wed. or Thurs. He expects details on what will be necessary to get a ride to the Toxic BBQ to be available soon.

                  He has no interest in a forum for it this year, so none will be added.

                    Hackbus will not be attending this year. I am aware of several people showing up to the Rio and willing to provide rides. Best thing I can suggest at this time is to ask around and see if you can catch one.

                      I just wanted to say after years of attending DC, I finally made it out to Toxic and had a blast.

                      One of the highlights for this con for me will forever be the image of a phalanx of shopping carts moving in formation into the heart of Sam's Club to pick up a crapton of food, hydration, and grilling supplies. Thanks to the drivers to/from the Rio and a double-thanks to Graverobber and everybody else for organizing, getting donations, and keeping Toxic going.
