Updates for the Forum Meet

The DEF CON Forum Meet will be held Friday Night from 20:30 until 02:00, in Amazon E. The forum meet is an awesome hangout meetup for current and future DEF CON Forum members, there will be plenty socializing, a performance from the goon band Recognize, and if we play our cards right a bouncy house.

I'm looking forward to this years event! If you want to volunteer your time to help out, or be around to make sure no one is walking off with stuff or swinging from the ceiling, I'd love it.

We will have a bar just outside the door in the hall for those looking for libations. I'll be doing the trivia game again this year and giving away free stuff.

A raffle will be held as well for a surprise gift. There will be light music and cool lighting starting after the Goon Band plays at 21:00, as well as a damn bouncy house ( Still waiting on hotel approval but pretty sure it will work out) Free drink tickets for forum members ( Limited quantities).

I was told that Nulltone would stop by, The Glorious Dark Tangent, obviously Roamer & Highwiz will be there, and I will literally pull my hair out if TheCotMan fails to show up, so he better put in an appearance.

I'm also doing another contest, in similar fashion to the great dc18 codpiece contest at the last forum meet I ran. :-P So here goes nothing. The best, most ridiculously blinky and glow light infested person will win a special white elephant prize. That's just for fun, because I'm low on decor funds so I need you to light up the room. Renderman, is disqualified, because it's not fair to everyone else. ( kidding )

Nikita... Woah! This sounds like it will be incredible. I missed the forum meets from DC14 thru DC18 (apparently epic), but I did in fact stop by the DC19 and DC20 forum meet for a half hour or so. They were very low energy and I was impatient, so I arrived late and left early... and I can tell that this year will be very different. Oh, and by the way, I get to the Rio on Tuesday, hopefully before noon, so I will likely see you around then... =]

You got the goon band to play at the forum meet? A potential bouncy castle? Wow. My Friday 8:30pm to Saturday 2am is officially booked! I plan to be at Amazon E. Weeee! I see no reason not to be... Okay, enough with the stupid rhymes. Clearly, I am a bit elated to read the good news!

I don't care if British Telecom (hehe, oh, the other BT...?) is making electronic music Friday night, I want to hang out with the cool kids and hear some rock & roll. Thank you *so* much for organizing this. This is going to totally make up for the dry meetings of the past two years. No offense to those organizers, but I think this event needs someone who understands DefCon Forum culture and diversity a bit.

As for TheCotMan attending, I have no idea if he will make it, but I think he can. Maybe he will be there under a pseudonym. I certainly hope he makes it!!! Ideally as TheCotMan, as he deserves some face to face recognition for all his hard work on the sysadmin side of things, as do all those who help run the DEF CON forums! However, from what I know, he is kinda shy and probably doesn't want much attention. Kinda like BlackWave, who sadly is not going to be at DefCon this year.

FYI: TheCotMan & BlackWave are humble, incredibly polite, and super-smart. I think your bouncy castle plan and/or the goon band performance will likely persuade him into appearing, pseudonym or not. I am confident he will stop by, perhaps on the sly, and say hello to you. So... please do not pull your hair out. And thanks again, this sounds like it will be a fun Forum Meet! =]

One question... should I bring ear plugs in case the Goon Band gets loud? I am going to assume yes... otherwise, see ya'll Friday night, about three weeks from today... yaaaaaay! I am gonna go do the happy dance for a minute or two, right after hitting "Submit Reply" :D

Just found out, due to fire code issues and not wanting to get the con shut down, we can't have the bouncy house in the room intended. However, we *may* end up with a bigger space, but the ceilings are too low, lol. So I"m dealing with that, and looking into a giant ball pit. We'll see.

Next year, you can bet your ass I'm going to apply for the right location to have the bouncy house. Maybe we'll still be lucky, I'll update you as we go.

No worries. I am confident that you and the other key organizers will find a way to make the event fun... and don't forget, a surprise or two can be a good thing :]

Looks like we are going to have some cool stuff this year. Plus, I got a very special party favor for everyone. ( At least, I have ordered 250 of them)

I actually would love assistance. I'm thinking of having a projector to have some cool images/videos play in the background, but need a VJ. Sooooooo IF someone wants to do that I'd love a volunteer.

I think we have another party during pub crawl looking for a VJ volunteer too.

I have projector lined up :-)
Just need someone to man it and play cool vids in the background mainly just for visual display :-)

I'd LIKE to have someone man the iPod situation, that I will playing some background music with, if that same person wants to hook up to the system and play music and be in charge of that it will kill two birds with one stone.

I'm pretty excited, I've managed to get a lot of cool things going for it, and a bunch of DEF CON t-shirts to hand out as some prizes :-)

So, unless someone else has skills and really wants to do it, I am pretty sure Xodia can handle A/V stuff. I will ask him about VJ experience, but I know he can handle A/V in general. Besides, I told him he has to show up to the forum meet and this gives me an excuse to keep him away from BT... although now that I think about it, I am pretty sure he will want to check out the various music that night, especially since he missed DefCon last year (after attending for 9 consecutive years)...

Xodia might be a backup option... is anyone else interested and/or experienced in VJing? If I don't see any replies here, I guess I will just ask around in Vegas between now and Friday. Beeple is really awesome, but I don't think we can book him on such short notice =]
