  • InfoSec Burnout Survey

In an effort to continue our understanding of burnout in the InfoSec community, I am investigating conducting a professionally-proctored Areas of Worklife Survey and Maslach Burnout Indicator survey.

The Areas of Worklife Survey (AWS) was created to assess employees’ perceptions of qualities of worksettings that play a role in determining whether they experience work engagement or burnout.

Recognized for more than a decade as the leading measure of burnout, the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) incorporates the extensive research that has been conducted in the more than 25 years since its initial publication. The MBI Surveys address three general scales:

    * Emotional exhaustion measures feelings of being emotionally overextended and exhausted by one’s work
    * Depersonalization measures an unfeeling and impersonal response toward recipients of one’s service, care treatment, or instruction
    * Personal accomplishment measures feelings of competence and successful achievement in one’s work

Once the data is collected, I will make it available to the community at large and procure a professional group analysis of that data to provide a broad picture of the state of our industry.

To that end, I need your input! If you would like to participate in the survey (it is conducted online and takes a few minutes), please send a note to p0lr@p0lr.org providing your name and the email address that you want the proctoring system to use to contact you. As each survey costs real money, please make sure you follow through with the survey once you receive instructions.
No, I will not fix your computer.
