  • For all you dumpster divers

I thought folks might get a kick out of this story from a local paper. After the police declared it was perfectly legal to sift through someone's trash that was on the curb, the paper decided to go through the mayor's, police chief's, and the DA's trash, who were unhappy to be treated the same way ordinary citizens are. Kudos to the DA for taking it like a man, though they didn't find his credit card number like they did for the police chief.

Great article! I think that the officer's actions were just trashy, and their excuses for it was garbage.
    Where's the dedication?

That was funny. when the tables get turned opinons change. Grifter had a great how-to manual on dumpster diving in 2600 a while back.

Waving at people who think they have power is ammusing, like cops, feds, government officals, etc.

The Multnomah County District Attorney's Office doesn't think so. Prosecutor Mark McDonnell says that once you set your garbage out on the curb, it becomes public property.

"She placed her garbage can out in the open, open to public view, in the public right of way," McDonnell told Judge Jean Kerr Maurer earlier this month. "There were no signs on the garbage, 'Do not open. Do not trespass.' There was every indication...she had relinquished her privacy, possessory interest."
My, isn't this the same argument bandwidth thieves use when borrowing someone's wireless internet connection?

They probably would just find the mass amount of beer bottles and cigarites. Then they might also find the occasional national security risk (Oh my! someone copyed a cd). It would be fun to go through defcons dumpsters. I wonder how many username and passwords we would find. I wish I had the huge paper with the wall of shame in my room.

Who the hell at defcon writes down their password....or anyone elses at that matter...the only ones I could think of is the wall of shame, and that wasn't too many.
