  • money?

i would like to know, from anyone who has driven to defcon from the east coast, about how much cash it would be recommended to bring.
i'm renting a van and we gonna be camping, so that kills the cost of hotel rooms.
i think i have figured out average cost of food and gas etc.. but i would appreciate any input from someone who has been done it before.
    thanks

I drove from NC to CA in 4 days in a little Honda Prelude. Figure $100 a day for hotel, gas, food.

no matter what you end up doing i suggest you that you get your local aaa to draw you up a triptik. they can often recomend the best routes and inexpensive campgrounds. if i recall correctly it's free for aaa members as well.

actually, i've always recomended that everyone who drives out to defcon get the extended towing package from aaa if you have a membership with them. it's only ten dollars more [afaik] and it can get your vehicle towed for up to a hundred miles without incurring charges.

Figure out where you are going to camp. As we (www.geekvote.com/defcon - not finished) were planning this we learned quite a lot about camp ground and which have showers and certain things and which don't. Just know what you are getting into before you go for it.

There's no such thing as over preperations...go through the trip in your head and figure out the necessities for the trip, keep going over it til you think you have it all.....

Or do like the rest of us and start planning from the day after the previous Defcon ends...just when you think you got it all, you never know what you will think of!

I will have to agree with this. Plan from the get go. and if your flying, it means that being prepared for them to ruffle through your lug, ask you a load of questions and then stuff all your things back into your back without caring wtf they are doing.

because I usually fly there, planning ahead of time to ship everything that I can so that I just walk on the plane with nothing but a laptop and a drink in hand.
