If I get time, i will roll out the DC19 Contests/Events forum this weekend, or next weekend.
Probably on the September 11, or September 18.

Gringo Warrior will indeed return... i'm glad we sorted out the Black Badge issue this year and that Dosman is getting his deserved prize.

Loads of other smaller Lockpick contests will also happen, they'll likely be under the generic "lockpicking" event heading

DEFCON Shoot... still unofficial, but surely still happening. lots of planning to do there.

there was talk that some people want to bring back Titanium Chef, but that's likely not going to involve me at all so i'll let them speak up separately.

Lockpickig contests for gringo warrior, etc added.

      Defcon Shoot added.

I don't have a reference for peek-a-boo booth. If that is separate, I'll need to confirm it as not, but returning before making a forum for it.

Shush you, you slacker. It is past the middle of September.

NOTICE: The addition of these forums does not mean, "you are set for next year at Defcon." When the call for information goes out, and Pyr0 or Russ' call for "who wants space in the contest room" and Nikita asks about contests in the speaker rooms, or other calls for information and requests for "what contests or events will be at Defcon 19" it is your job to follow those and provide the people asking for this information, the information they need. If later, one of these goons that runs any one of these spaces later says, "Oh. I have no idea. They never checked with me," then I'll yank the forum associated with the contest or event. The forums follow the decisions made by Defcon Goons and Staff. The forums are provided early, so you can start planning and discuss returning events before official requests for infor and resources requirements are desired.

Thanks for all of your help with this.

If you have a new contest or event, then you will have to wit until the people that control the space or resources you want to use at Defcon ask for it, and/or get approval for your contest or event so the resources you need can be allocated. The order for new contests or events is you get your approval for the contest or event from the people that control the resources you want to use FIRST. Once you have an OK from them, let me know and I can check with them to confirm it, and make a forum.

      Good luck!

Any other returning contests or events for Defcon 19 that have been at Defcon before?

Any of the existing forums for Defcon 19 contests/events need new information, titles, descriptions, or links/URL? Please let me know.

      Good luck everyone,
      -Cot

Okay... Forum activated. Don't forget to get your space from Nikita or whoever you worked with last time. If you did it off-site, and you want it in the program, you'll want to tlk to the same people you did last year. Forum activated until there is an official call for your info. Good luck!

I spoke with JonM and DaKahuna about the Ham Licensing event. Last I heard, JonM was probably not going to be at Defcon next year and DaKahuna had an interest in continuing with this event. JonM said he was ok with DaKahuna taking it over, and running it. I've made a forum for this, too. DaKahuna, it is your responsibility to follow-through with Nikita or Pyr0 or Grifter for the space at Defcon you want, depending on where you want to have your event.

I believe all contests and events that have been stated by leaders/organizers as returning here, now have a forum.

As stated before, if you have a new contest/event or want to bring back a contest/event that has been absent for a while, you will need to clear that with Nikita, Grifter, or Pyr0/Russ, and if none of these apply, then DT.

          Thanks!
          -Cot

Re: Did you run a contest/event for Defcon 18 that had a forum and will return?

I'm still on vacation, but I can quickly answer this...

I have received no word from the organizers of this on a plan to return, and have no new information about this from Neil or Nikita. This does not mean this event is not returning. It only means that if they plan on returning, that I've heard nothing yet. In the past, Neil, Nikita, Pyr0&Russ, and a few others have synchronized information on who is planning to return, so I would guess that the people running 'be the match' have not expressed their interest in returning. This should not be cause for worry, as I don't think there has been an official call for contests&events from the various department heads or goons running spaces. The only events listed on the forums are as a result of previous leaders/organizers letting me know their intent to return. It is very likely that none of the contests have been given space or an 'ok' to return by the people that run spaces at defcon, so anything presently listed may be removed if a contest/event leader/organizer does not clear their contest/event for return and get resources allocated as desired.

(Posted from my phone: I'll edit later to fix typos)

"Be the Match" registry drive will be back

"Be the Match," the national bone marrow donor program has been gracious enough to return to the conference to conduct another registry drive. The following URLs point to their media campaigns:

Back for its second year! Take part of the coolest "Bio-Hack" around... register with "Be the Match" at DefCon, and take the first step to become a Bone Marrow Donor.

Great! [forum=558]Forum added[/forum], but understand that it is present on the condition that when there is a call for contests/events that you submit your information to the person in charge of the resources you plan to use. (Examples: contest area, presentation room, etc.) The forums follow the decisions of the goons that run the spaces for contests or events at Defcon.

For any interested, there will be a two day Technican Class training session, two hours each day, on Friday and Saturday.
