                        as reported by kevin:

Last night, a fan had exploited a vulnerability in Microsoft IIS (Does MS really have bugs) and dropped an html file (hacked.html) onto the server for the world to see. The consequence of the attack was insignificant to us, but could have been worse if the person had real malicious intent. I did, however, install all the latest patches to prevent the same exploit from working in the future. I suppose it was kind of a wake up call. I do not maintain the website personally, so I exercised the same digilence that every business should do to keep this from happening to them. Patch management and configuration management! Microsoft also made the same mistake last week by not exercising a standard of due care, and was hit with the Sql slammer worm.

I want to thank the person who hacked into our system for raising my level of awareness so we can be more digilent about keeping our servers patched. As we all know, a firewall is ineffective for port 80 exploits.
