I have cable. Just did a speed test. 1080 kbps.Originally posted by simple3
Anyone here have cable internet? The only person that I have talked to basically told me when he switched from cable to DSL he got a *much* faster connection, about four to five times as fast, on the DSL. I would be interested to here what kind of connection rates people get on their cable internet connections. I can get about 180K/s, from a spectacular server, on my DSL here in Chico.

i have had much better speed with cable (cox) than dsl (sbc). the difference is your location. cable will blow away dsl as long as your neighbors are not using it or not using it much. cable gives the "community" bandwidth and if everyone uses it it will slow everyone down. dsl has a fairly personal service thatr is slower. but in highly populated areas, cable will slow enough that dsl will pass it up.
on another note. i am not a dialup kinda guy, but Earthlink puts together a fairly fast and fairly reliable service. if i was restricted to dialup, earthlink is what i would be using....the fresh prince of 1337

Ive had cable internet for 5 or 6 years and over the whole time the speed had decreased because everyone uses it. I am thinking of trying dsl because my common speed is about 23 kbs.Comment

I am aware that cable varies based on usage in your area, etc... but I can't recall actually ever seeing even an approximate bandwidth rate advertised by the cable company. Admittedly the 180KB/s(~1.4Mbps) is a rarity, but I can usually get around 140KB/s(~1.1Mbps) reliably. if you can get 1080kbps and not have the same kind of problems when uploading over your connection I may look into cable internet. We just got a new cable provider in Chico. Maybe they will be better than AT&T was.

I just tested upstream (which is much slower with cable) and got 82.4kbps. Then I went to DSL Reports and tested both (this is a more accurate test in my experience) and got 85kbps upstream and 1431 kbps downstream.perl -e 'print pack(c5, (41*2), sqrt(7056), (unpack(c,H)-2), oct(115), 10)'Comment
