  • the new Black Badge system?

At some of the more recent DEFCONs and also on the forums, there has been some talk from the higher-ups about attempts to systematically catalog previous Black Badge winners so that the physical badge needn't be brought to DEFCON every year (or brought to the reg booth, stored there, etc) and I'd love to know about the latest status on that.

For a period of about 3 or 4 years, actually, I had my Black Badge lost in the reg system, so to speak. TW very graciously was able to track it down just before he moved on to other opportunities. I got to finally use it the past couple years. And, as in the past, at last year's DEFCON i managed to leave it behind at reg. (This is due to running so many events and the lockpicking area tying me up pretty badly at the end of con. closing out our spot in the Vendor area, Shutting down and packing up the massive TOOOL crate, and even trying to get up to award ceremonies to give away prizes, etc... that always jams my schedule)

So, while I hold out hope that the badge will still be there next summer for me to claim it... i'd love to be able to just be "on the list" so-to-speak in the future and claim my human badge each year by whatever other process is put in place that was under consideration.

Can anyone shed more light on this?
"I'll admit I had an OiNK account and frequented it quite often… What made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store… iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

I doubt this helps, but perhaps a numbered challenge coin can be awarded with the black badge, where all you need to do is show said coin. Staff can then mark that "this number" has checked in and will keep people from passing the coin around to others.

    Just a random thought...

looks like DEFCON has posted some more details about the new Black Badge system and how they are attempting to implement the registry, etc... https://www.defcon.org/html/links/dc-bb-policy.html
