From out of the country. No guns. How can I shoot?

Hi, all. This is my first year and I really want to attend Defcon Shoot. Since I don't have any guns myself since I'm not from the US, is there a chance I can rent/borrow one at the event? I'm willing to bring in ammo to make up for what I shoot and not deplete someone else's ammo. If someone can shed a light on this. It'd be great. Thanks!

If you're willing to pay/reimburse the owner for ammo, you'll have no problem borrowing a gun there to shoot. It likely won't be for the full time, but there will be many shooting lanes and many guns, so you should have no trouble sampling various guns.

Since you're not from the US, I'm going to assume you are not super familiar with guns/ammo. And you also mentioned this is your first defcon shoot.

Realize that ammo costs money. A ballpark for the best prices available is http://www.gunbot.net/ but that doesn't include shipping. Also after a shoot it is not uncommon for someone renting guns to need to purchase cleaning supplies, and possibly replace small parts on their gun like extractors and springs (also not free, and takes time). Machine guns will require a new barrel after a few shoots. Non vegas people have to fly with their guns, meaning baggage fees etc.

As for the defcon shoot, a lane rental is $35 an hour. If you're renting guns, you're burning their lane time.

The reason I call out all these prices is you should find out what guns you want to rent, and shop around between the different lanes. But I wouldn't expect to pay the raw cost of ammo for renting a gun.

A few years ago there were signs that the lane renters could post on their lane if they were willing to rent firearms or not. That way you wouldn't have to ask everyone individually. I usually post what i'm renting and the prices I'm charging to make it easier for everyone.

Also PLEASE ask questions. My opinion is there are no stupid questions on a range and I'll never be annoyed if I have to explain something 5+ times. I'd much rather have you fully understand the gun/controls/process/whatever than have you just wing it. Ranges are loud (obviously) so you often need to have something explained multiple times because you can't hear it the first time, please ask someone to repeat something.

If you want to shoot any of my guns I'd rather you use the ammo I bring. I do not like some ammo types used on my guns because they are either filthy (I gotta clean these things!), unreliable (FTE, FTF), or dangerous (steel core). Most times I cannot tell this until after the shoot.

Foreigner here planning to attend Defcon shoot as well, used to shoot recreationally in a club but haven't done any shooting for a long while, would be more than happy to pay for ammo and a fair price for renting a few guns as well. Majority of the guns I'd like to see (and shoot if possible) are illegal in my country.
