Just a reminder (and link to a fun video) about binary reactive targets. We don't allow them at the DEFCON Shoot because...
1. it's too hard to police and keep tabs on the targets that people are shooting, so we don't know who's packing what and how strong and how it's mounted, etc
2. the whole area where we shoot is full of all kinds of detritus which can react badly if flung in odd directions
3. the distances involved between the firing line and many targets is too close to be safe for larger reactive loads
4. it's caused LEO response in the past (granted, that was folk loading up a whole lot of it)
5. some folk also cite the possibility of fire risk, but even with the very dry climate out there I don't know how valid that one is.
... We mention this ever year at the start briefing, and have never had a problem. if you bring Tannerite (or any of the other products that are analogs of that binary compound) and set it off, our staff will ask you to stop shooting for the day.
Let me be clear, however, that i fucking love Tannerite (honestly I like Sure Shot even more, it's livelier and will work with 22LR) and think it's a whole lot of fun. But in a small, intimate setting where you know everyone and everyone is expecting the big boom... not in a big public place where you don't know all the other shooters and you don't know how responsible they're being.
I'll leave you with this pretty terrific entry recently on The Firearm Blog... http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2...y-to-kill-you/
Be careful out there!
