  • Hotel checkout at 11:00am, flight leaves at 9:00pm, looking for options for bags

A friend of mine is making his first trip to DEF CON and Las Vegas and had what I thought was a pretty good question. I didn't have an answer and cursory searches through the forums didn't turn up anything so I thought I'd post it to try to get an answer and in case anyone else was in the same boat.

He has a room booked and his checkout is Sunday, he's gotta be out of the room by 11:00am. He just got a flight today, but it doesn't leave until 9:00pm. His question is, does anyone have any ideas of what he can do with his luggage (one checked bag and 2 carry on [there's 2 people]). He asked about a locker rental or similar or if the hotel may have storage that he could use or rent. This will be my second trip to Las Vegas, so I was very little help.

I know someone else that had this kind of problem when we were are the Riv (before the Rio, before Paris/Bally's. They were able to use their hotel's bell-service option for bags, and have them kept behind a desk.

Contact the hotel you are staying with, and see if they can hold your bags after check-out and how that procedure is supposed to work. There may be fees involved with this.

If/when you find out, please followup on the forums with the present hotels and their policies and directions in order to deal with bag issues like this.

At every DEFCON hotel I've ever stayed at I've never had a problem just going to the bell-hop or concierge counter and asking them to hold my bag till right before my airport shuttle pickup.
They take it in back and store it somewhere and give me a numbered tag to re-claim it later.
I can't say how secure the area is were they store it, nor that no one will riffle through it while it's there, but it's going to be more secure then me dragging it all around town all day!
And I'm sure the hotel won't tolerate the hit on their reputation if something were to happen. Just make sure it looks like every other bag and doesn't stand out.

TheCotMan and qumqats , thank you for the info. I passed it along. The friend called the number that he has for the hotel and was advised by the call center person (who advised that she contacted her contact at the Linq, the hotel that they're staying at) that the Linq does allow guests to leave luggage at the bell / bell-hop desk after checkout. He asked about the security of the storage area and was assured that this was secure. There was no mention of charges (and he failed to ask).

All major casino hotels bell desks will hold your bags for you for no charge. They want you to spend money in their establishment. Only cost is a tip, a couple bucks when you pick them up.
