Jeff directed changes to the forums to support this. Now the category "Welcome to DEF CON" now has a new forum "Announcements, Rules, ADA, Questions" https://forum.defcon.org/node/242690 which now contains 4 separate forums: "Announcements" https://forum.defcon.org/node/19 , "The Forum Rules" https://forum.defcon.org/node/242691 , "DEF CON ADA" https://forum.defcon.org/node/242670 , and "General Questions" https://forum.defcon.org/node/242669 ... I've moved the DC 30 thread into this new forum for ADA with a redirect from the old location to the new location which will expire in 6 months. (This allows people that remember the thread from its old location to navigate and find a link to it. This has zero impact to people that bookmarked it, as the URL it had should be the same as the URL after being moved.

For getting a contest, event, village, party, contact the department that handles these to get them to include this event/party. Forums follows departmental approval processes.

New Mobile Apps Released!

After more than a year of no updates we have updated to version 2.7. If fixes a lot of bugs, adds features like “like” groups, articles, and better PM support.

Group Support - Mobile Suite 2.7 supports the participation in vBulletin's Group channels. Users can create new topics, replies, and comments within existing groups. Group Owners/Moderators can moderate content from within the apps.

• Some text not translated to Spanish in Apps

New Changes / Features:

Because the forums are set up to work with modern browsers only, the following protocol is no longer needed to be supported:

• TLS 1.2 is no longer supported, so has been disabled.

Edits were for 24 hours, then allowed for 1 hour. Now they are allowed for 5 minutes to fix typos.
Spam bots love to create a post, then come back later and edit the post to include spam and links.
We've tightened the window for allowed edits to reduce that abuse.

Has the ability to edit my previous posts been removed? I remember being able to do this in the past, and even in this thread I see that people have edited their posts a year ago.
Maybe I'm just not seeing the edit button?

Wait I can edit this post but not others. Do certain sub-forums restrict editing, or is it time-based? example post I'm not able to edit
I also notice I can comment on my own post in this thread, but I can't in the one I link above (I only have "quote" and "flag" options in that thread)

For other users reading this: We do these changes in public for transparency to show they were user requested. Not all username change requests are honored. FOr example, a user should be a good standing, and the change should not add confusion to conversations like having a username very similar to another user.

New features have been enabled on the server that should speed things up, please let me know if the forums feel "speedier"

• We switched from gzip (.gz) to brotli (.br) compression, it should create 10-20% smaller pages
• We pre-compressed all the java-script files with maximum static brotli compression. This gives even better compression than on-the-fly brotli.
• We added banner images, generic avatars, and core java-script to have a longer cache time to save on bytes transferred
• We set custom avatar cache timeout to 40 minutes. If you update your avatar remember to clear your cache (shift mouse click reload) or else you will have to wait for the cache to timeout.
• More minor performance tweaks coming soon
