Still, the experience of DC29 taught us a few things. Some of our attendees work DEF CON into their business travel schedule, and the option to pre-reg with a credit card over the web made things much easier for them. Some of our attendees need to manage a group purchase, or want a more detailed receipt.

You will always be able to lay down US dollars in the reg line." says that you can buy entry into DEF CON with cash at the door...

However...

DEF CON people do their best to estimate the number of people who might attend, and then generate badges to match the predicted count of people. Since non-paper DEF CON badges have to be constructed and shipped long before DEF CON starts, it is not a count we can change once orders have been places. As a result, once we run out of non-paper DEF CON badges, we historically switch to *paper* badges.

Last year, as we were approaching some limit less than the total number of non-paper badges, a decision was made to halt on-line sales and pre-purchase of non-paper DEF CON badges. THis meant that people showing up in person also had a chance to get a non-paper badge in person, but like all years, first come, first serve until supplies run out. After we are out of non-paper badges, we switch to paper badges.

What will happen this year? I do not think any announcement has been made, but I would *guess* that there would be a supply of non-paper physical badges available for purchase with cash by people in-person in Las Vegas. How many? No idea.

When the non-paper badges run out, we will likely switch to paper badges. I do not recall any DEF CON where people were turned away, except on Sunday when the sale of badges was closed.

TL;DR: non-paper badges should still be available for purchase with cash at DEF CON each day of DEF CON "while supplies last" and then sales switch to paper badges up until the last day (Sunday.) Whether you purchase a paper or non-paper badges, either grants access to attend DEF CON.
