If you are the primary speaker in one of the main tracks at DEF CON 30, then this page provided details:

I don't see any mention of meals. If the primary speaker accepted cash instead of badges, then I guess the cash cold go towards meals at the primary speaker's choice. Up to the speaker.Originally posted by URL1What do you get if selected?
You get a cool speaker badge that gets you in to DEF CON for free, you get paid USD $300 or 3 Human Badges, and get four nights of hotel paid for! Most speakers also find it is a great way to meet others interested in their topics. You can opt to forgo the $300 payment and instead receive 3 human badges that you can give to your friends, sell to strangers, or hold onto as timeless mementos. Receiving badges instead of checks has been a popular option for those insisting on maintaining their anonymity.
DEF CON will promote your presentation, link to your social media, blog, or web pages you desire, and help arrange for any interviews from interested media that want to learn what you are up to. Please let us know on the form if you want to do any interviews and we will pass on your info to our press team.
During DEF CON there is a speaker party where you can meet the staff, CFP review team, and all the other speakers before the main conference kicks off and you get swept away into the vortex of Con.
After DEF CON, your professionally recorded presentations are transcribed with English subtitles, then shared all over the planet through our media server, Bittorrent servers, ed2k, YouTube, index sites, etc.
If you are providing content to something else, then contact the person running the space where you would be providing in-person presentations. For example, if you are providing content for a Village, that is not the same as being selected for the primary DEF CON speaker tracks -- contact the village where your presentation content would be accepted to see what if anything they can provide you. Similar approach for contests, or parties or any other events: contact the people that granted you access to present your content.- Selected Answer

Unfortunately, I'm not a presenter, but wanted to be sure if there are any meals even for just listeners as I heard Black Hat will offer breakfasts and lunches even for listeners. Anyway, thank you for the reply! -
I don't recall ever seeing options for meals to people attending any main-track presentations. I have seen cases where attendees have provided each other food and drink on occasion at DEF CON, but that was many years ago. Handing out free booze, or giving away food and drink in the casino (that your brought from outside the hotel/casino) is something that could *probably* get the hotel/casino to ban you from the hotel/casino, and if the hotel/casino bans you from the site, there isn't much of anything that DEF CON can do about that.
From *observation* the Hotel/Casino is strongly against anything which could cause them to lose their liquor licenses and bring any questions about their food services to any health department. To give you some idea how restrictive hotels and casinos can be on the topic of food/drink, there have been cases where the hotel/casino wanted to search the bags of attendees before entering into speaker tracks, but I think that has not happened in years. Even parties have suffered these restrictions, some choosing to move parties off-site and some pay for bus services to/from the off-site location. Also, if underage drinking becomes too common at a hotel/casino, that could impact more than their liquor licenses. They can be really touchy when it comes to underage drinking.
Basically, the hotels/casinos attitude (based on years of past observation) is this: It is okay to the hotel/casino for you to share food that you bought at the casino, but not if you bought it outside of the hotel/casino. (Their rules as observed.) Sharing booze is often more difficult. If you ask for 2 drinks, the bartender may require ID for you and the person for whom you are buying a drink or may require them to be present. I've not seen any reliable rule/enforcement on that across all hotels and bartenders.
In the recent past, DEF CON has purchased water services from the hotel where water tanks have been installed in various places in the con where attendees can refill their own containers with water or use any provided cups, but even the water is part of a contract with the hotel.
For food/drink/meals, the common choices people have tried in the past:
* Buy food in the hotel
* Buy food outside of the hotel (some people have picked up food at grocery stores, but hotels have rules about hot plates and cooking in rooms, and many have eliminated in-room refrigerators to keep stuff cool. Check with your hotel no their rules if you have questions.)
Whatever your plans, be careful. If you do choose to break rules, drawing attention to yourself is more likely to lead to confrontation.
I am not here to enforce rules of the hotel/casino, but instead to provide warnings on things that have caused other people problems when attending DEF CON. I'd rather people find ways to avoid confrontation with the hotel so they can stick around and have fun.Last edited by number6; July 14, 2022, 18:59.
