Check with the organizers using the contact information provided in the details of this event. I do not run this event, but I have relayed information about it and other things at DEF CON from various DEF CON departments.

Hi number6, this sounds fun:) I am trying to arrange my first con now so very excited. I'm a little slow on a bike but will try to keep up!! Once I'm all registered I'll prep for the ride.

Can you please offer any advice where to look about attending a paid training or extra module at the conference? I am trying to budget for it now and not sure how to find technical courses.. but at least I found a bike ride to start;)

    Thank you in advance

I do not run this event or any contests, events, villages or parties at DEF CON. I do populate the forums with details from these when various departments at DEF CON relay details for each.
Please see the details of this event posted above to find contact information to reach the organizers of this if you have questions about it.

The present schedule for the bike ride is starting at 6am on Friday, historically the first official day of DEF CON. As DEF CON gets closer, review the schedule to see if the Bike Ride might deny you other things you would prefer. Usually, Friday 6am-8am, there isn't much in the way of official stuff in the conference area while people are setting up for attendees.

As for paid modules or training, I also do not run any of those, but some information on learning:

The single badge you buy for entry to DEF CON gets you access to all of the main speaker tracks. If there are lines for these, there is a risk you won't be able to attend all of the talks you want to attend. Main speaker track talks have historically been recorded and often make their way online to be available on youtube.com or on the DEF CON media server a few months after DEF CON is over: https://media.defcon.org/ , A DEF CON badge also gets you access to Villages, Contests, Events, and many DEF CON provided parties which are all first come, first served up to maximum allowed by fire marshal. To give you some idea about all the things that happen at the same time a partial list of what was available FROM LAST YEAR: https://info.defcon.org/ (as of this post.) Within a month or so of this post, the content on https://info.defcon.org/ will likely disappear and start getting replaced with content for this year, 2023 and DEF CON 31. Not all parties are listed on that site, but there is a group that tracks official and unofficial parties. With a little searching, you can probably find them. Parties and things not officially part of DEF CON might not abide by the DEF CON Code of Conduct. If that matters to you, ask their organizers if they do abide by it or not.

There are things which are not covered with a DEF CON badge. There are private parties that have their own restrictions for entry. Historically, some have been invite only, requiring you to know someone to get an invite. Some have been performance based, where a puzzle must be solved to get an invite, but sometimes the puzzles are limited. Some parties take place at BlackHat (not part of DEF CON) but people arriving early to DEF CON sometimes manage to get into those corporate BlackHat parties. There are also "Workshops" and "Paid Training" which have additional costs.

Many villages have demos and hand-on learning opportunities (Lock Pick Village for example) which are usually included to everyone with a badge while space is available.

DemoLabs I *think* are available to anyone that has a DEF CON badge while seat/space allows, too. I do not have information on DemoLabs for DEF CON 31 yet. Once i do, it would likekly go here: https://forum.defcon.org/node/244767

Workshops have been around for many years, and they have limited seats and historically reasonable prices and they take place *during* DEF CON, so attending Workshops means missing out on other stuff. I do not have details on workshops yet. I am expecting to get Workshop details probably mid-June. WARNING: workshop seat/spots usually sell-out quickly. Popular workshops can sell out in minutes, but most are usually sold out within an hour or so. Pay attention to when workshops are (1) announced, and (2) when they will go for sale online, paying close attention to the timezone fr the date specified. You will need to do your own date-math to find our what time what would be for your local timezone. Workshops seats (tickets) are usually sold online long before DEF CON. Again, seats can get sold quickly, so plan to be available to buy them when they are available for sale if any interest you.
I plan to place Workshop information for DEF CON 31 here once they are available: https://forum.defcon.org/node/244772

Newer than the above are "Paid Training" which I *think* takes place *after* DEF CON Sunday, when villages, contests, main speaker tracks, etc are closed down and most people have gone home. For details on paid training expected to happen after DEF CON (which has been significantly more expensive than Workshops) you can check two places. When I get the details for paid training, I plan to include it here:
https://forum.defcon.org/node/244768 but some early information might be available here: https://training.defcon.org/ .

I do not run any of these things. For more details on each, check with the organizers of each.

      Good luck!

Thank you a million number6:) your kind and thoughtful reply really made my day and gave me a ton of good things to think about and prepare to make the most out of my/our experience.

I will do my best to to sign up as you recommend and will stay open minded to stumbling across unexpected surprises, if I'm watching. That seems to be a theme;-) maybe see you on the bike ride and thank you for the very warm welcome and wonderful information, hope you have a good day/week.

I had been putting off getting here for years and glad I reached out.. finally, lol. Best luck also!!

Being open to new opportunities is a usually better plan than a rigid plan.

I am not involved in this event, and will not be at the cycle override. I probably will not be in Las Vegas this year. There has been value in having someone watch the servers and be available in case of troubles.
