    Question: Badge Transfer

I clicked around a bit and wasn't sure if this was the perfect place to post this but as the title implies I am not able to attend this year; my reasons are far too personal and don hertzfeldt-esque to get too much further into.
I know This Is Not America's Next Top Best Friend but since that was my primary goal in attending IRL was to make friends instead of lurking the discord, forum and youtube re-runs I figured I would post here before just asking for a refund on my badge.
I have been absolutely enamored with the past badges that I have gotten to interact with; hacking badge was what I was most excited about doing this year. When I was researching specs for what exactly would be necessary to make that a possibility I found that since my laptop only has USB type C ports it does not support the busses necessary to do hardware hacking; I considered bringing my hack skirt but it seemed like bringing questionably functional art piece as my primary hacking rig would be foolhardy at best.
With the addition of the aforementioned health issues I decided it was best to pull-out since I'd rather not be a con-virgin alone in Vegas dealing with complex health issues with a less than optimal computer(s).
I assume most people have already reserved their badge but is anyone interested in a transfer?

There is a time limit for refund of online-token-for-badge. As of July 17, 2023, the https://shop.defcon.org/ website claims (in an image)
"Tickets are transferable. The fee to cancel a ticket until July 15th 2022 is $34. The fee to cancel after July 15th is $84."

I'm pretty sure the year was meant to be 2023, and asked about that. I am waiting for a reply.

Keep this in mind when looking to transfer it, as people can still pay for a badge in-person with cash for $20 cheaper than the online price, and they may recognize you will suffer a loss of cash ($84) and ask for $84 off the in-person cash price before buying from you. ($440 cash price in-person, $460 - $84 = $376 : they may expect to only pay $356.)

There may be an additional date where no cancelations and no refunds are available, but I do not know when that might be. Obviously, after DEF CON is over, asking for a refund is probably a non-starter, but there may be an even earlier date than that. I do not run https://shop.defcon.org/ so none of the answers I provide are authoritative.

An issue you have with transferring a code is the recipient would need to trust you to actually provide a valid code, and also not re-share the same code to many people, where only the first person claiming a valid code gets a badge, while everyone else get scammed.Your best bet is to transfer it to someone that knows and trusts you to not sell it to many people.

Thanks! I'll reach out to the store! Enjoy yourself this year!

That notice that was on shop.defcon.org mentioning closure from last year, disappeared after I asked about it. Not sure what the policy is this year. I don't see anything posted anymore on topic of refunds for DEF CON 31.
