I am not part of this DCG.
Some possible reasons based on other DCG:
(1) There were rules on the DEF CON Discord server to not promote other discord servers in public channels. I don't know if those rules apply to the forums or defcon.social : it is possible the original poster is worried about this.
(2) A very common issue is invites tend to have a limited lifespan and have to be re-issued when they expire. It is possible this is to avoid that issue.
(3) Maintaining a discord server can be time-consuming with spammers and abuse. Avoiding posts with links to your server may decrease such problems at a cost to making a sufficient barrier of inconvenience for new members to join. Some people running servers may find this an acceptable cost.
