Hello, T-Mobile would like to participate in and sponsor a telco village! Is there someone that I can talk with about that?

For now, the defcon.org main website is down for maintenance.
When it returns...
According to:
URL0=https://defcon.org/html/defcon-32/dc-32-cfi.html
which gets you to Call for Villages:
URL1=https://defcon.org/html/defcon-32/dc-32-cfv.html
According to that page, for DEF CON 32, the call for villages closed on Feb 1 2024.Originally posted by URL1Call for Villages is Now Closed
Announcing the DEFCON 32 Call For Villages!
DEF CON 31 was an awesome year, but we are ready to do it all again and make it even better!! We have already begun planning DEFCON 32 and will be announcing accepted content on the DEFCON Forums.
If you are interested in hosting a village at DEFCON, here are some requirements you should know up front:- The deadline to submit is February 1, 2024.
Next, onto "sponsorship" : in old DEF CON that wasn't really a thing.
Some exceptions have been allowed for very specific things, but they are usually not for DEF CON but instead for a party, contest, event or village.
That is the *history* not an offer for you for now.
None of those are my departments. You will need to discuss your ideas with the department related to thing you want to support.
It sounds like you want to support a village. The content for this year (DEF CON 32 in 2024) shows (or will show) that the Call for Villages closed early in February. If you are interested in things related to running or sponsoring a village, then the department that handles villages is who you would want to talk to.
You can try asking if there is already a telecommunications village planned for this year, and if so, if you can sponsor them or help them, but that would be between you, the DEF CON Villages Department that grants status as villages, and whatever villages that have been approved are willing to do.
I hope this helps.
Expect the links on the main website to work again probably in about 4-5 hours.Last edited by number6; February 27, 2024, 17:50. -
What do you have in mind? There was a telecom village last year, but I don't know who organized it or if they're returning. It was mostly focused on Diameter.
(On a side note, I would love to do a telco village someday, albeit with ancient technology so the youngins can learn about what the old days were like. Think: running analog lines all over the convention center, with multiple switches that are vulnerable to in-band signalling attacks...)Comment

Hey supersat! Thanks for commenting. I hope to track down who may have submitted for a Telco village so we can team up since we've missed out on the call for villages. We'd probably offer some web scope to play around with and potentially some hardware. We're pretty open and flexible and willing to sponsor a space financially! It will be our first time having any presence as a company at DEFCON, so we mainly intend to get out there and engage with the community! I love your idea about old-school telco technology. I will run that idea by the planning team and reach out if we want to support something like that this year.

If you check the CFV page from *last* year, there is this:Originally posted by tmotesterThis does help a ton, thank you for your time and help! Now, my next mission is to find a contact for the Villages Department. If you do happen to know of a contact, please let me know! I appreciate you.

THIS IS FROM LAST YEAR (2023) not this year:
The contact email address is almost certainly the same.Originally posted by URL1Please cut & paste the following form into the body of an email and mail to villages@defcon.org. The deadline to submit is March 1, 2023.
Maybe someone in the department that approves villages can let you know who (if anyone) to contact about a Telecommunications village, and if so , maybe they can get you contact information.
Be sure to let the DEF CON Villages department know about your plans for sponsorship, so they can give you some ideas on what things might work, and which things might be a problem.
Because we are in a new venue, we do not yet have a clear picture of what kinds of things will or won't be allowed at the venue. In the past, the hanging of signage on walls was forbidden, or suffer the wrath of the venue. Details like that, and what will be allowed and what won't in villages spaces may change as we learn more.
Nothing I have posted here is any indication of what will or won't be approved. I only comment on things that have been issues, and things that have happened in the past.
Villages Department is authoritative for village decisions.
Good luck!Last edited by number6; February 29, 2024, 16:24.Comment
