ACCESS UPDATES FOR HDA -- GO WEST ( Hall )

    Greetings programs!

Here's the latest from HDA - Hackers with disabilities ...

I have met again with the folks at the LVCC and have some clarification and corrections about access to and from the West Hall at the LVCC.

First off, and foremost - once you get inside the west hall it's amazingly accessible. That said there are some restrictions :

    - You can not bring in personally owned mobility devices unless they are medical in nature , aka Durable Medical Goods ( DMG ). While it is not a hard requirement I would strongly suggest bringing your doctor's note / authorization for your devices if they are wheeled or powered. This goes for plugging them in to charge - only approved medical devices or devices rented from the facility.
    - You can rent mobility devices from the facility, oddly enough through Fedex. I am getting the deep info on that for you soon.
    - No skateboards, hoverboards, segways , and so on.

    - Because of much better facilities available to us - there will be no Safe Harbor room this year. The facilities available from the LVCC include SHARPS disposal, and room to take care of business.
    - Mother rooms will be available
    - Service animals are allowed HOWEVER there is no 'official' relief area for them as there has been in previous years.

Up Next : Getting to and from the West Hall. This is subject to change and updates , and boy howdy will there be some!

BEST WAY for HDA attendees :

    - Uber, Taxi , Vehicle. The drop off point for the west hall is clearly marked, well lit, and has multiple electronic doors.
    - Ask your hotel if there is a courtesy shuttle to the LVCC.

    NEXT BEST WAY :

    - Monorail. You have two options when using the monorail.
-- Best option : Take the Monorail to the Westgate Hotel stop. Follow signage to the North hall. This will involve a small / bearable walk across one relatively isolated street outside. Honestly about a 1 minute walk , tops. Out one door, across the street , in another. From inside the north hall follow the signage to the West Hall skyway. This will put you on the 2nd floor of the west hall.

    PROS : 99% indoors , pretty straightforward.
CONS : Long walk. overall, but the majority of it is indoors.

-- Not so good option : Take the monorail to the Boingo / LVCC stop. Once you are on the ground you have an outdoor covered walkway that leads to the North hall. Again once in the North hall follow signage to the West Hall Skyway.

PROS : Shorter walk , more direct
CONS : Outside!! 99% of this path is outside and this is Vegas in the summer. Not suggested. ALSO : If you choose this path do NOT attempt to take the sidewalk of Paradise road and cross over to the west hall. It is NOT SAFE for ADA needs in any way shape or form. It is also not covered with an awning.

    THE LOOP :

If you want to try the loop , CALL AHEAD. The loop contact folks have told me that they can accommodate SOME ADA users but not all. I am told there is a surface fan for powered wheelchairs and large scooters. Limited scooter racks in the cars that go through the loop, and no problems for crutches / braces / etc so long as you can load and unload them in the space of a vehicle.

CITY BIS : Route 108 has a stop that has a clear walkway to the West Hall.

Updated maps to come! More info to come! PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS WHILE RESERVING HOTEL ROOMS AND TRANSPORTATION.

HDA is here for you - let us know how we can help.
