    ANNOUNCE: Defcon Scavenger Hunt

It's that time of year again. Defcon is getting really close and it's time to start getting people informed about this years Scavenger Hunt. the Hunt will once again be headed up by the Utah folks. More specifically 2600SLC and Rootcompromise.org.

The Site is up, the Rules are Up. And New this year, a Suggestion form so you can submit ideas on what you'd like Hunt competitors to find or what tasks you'd like to see them complete.

Check it out and Get prepared at:

    http://www.scavengerhunt.org/

Get suggesting. We'd like to have a list that is just as outrageous as last year. And I'm sure you guys can help.

We try. Hell, we figure instead of just taking from the con we'd give a little back. It just happens that we enjoy it, so we get more and more every year.

I think the Scavenger Hunt is the best team event at Defcon. It's hilarious what goes on, except for the folks getting busted for getiung the pay phone, that kind of sucked. I'd love to get involved in this in one way or another, preferably on the suggestions side, so I'll start thinking. :D

Wow, I was all excited, and then thoughts of what bw might have suggested made me feel kinda tingly...

This sounds like great fun, and a spectacular way to introduce myself to Las Vegas. :D

Gotta start thinking of ideas... something involving a chicken...

If I had a nickle for every time someone offered me ten cents to keep my two cents to myself... I would be a rich man.

Hey, how much time does the scavenger hunt consume? I'm really tempted to sign up for it cause I think it could be awesome madness, but I'm concerned I'll wind up spending so much time playing the game that I won't get to be around for all the other cool stuff at DC. This is my first one, remember.

I suppose I could sign up and then just not try if it takes too much time, but how could I do that and still call myself a geek? Geeks never give up!

The hunt can take up as little or as much time as you would like to put into it. It's always fun and it doesn't take too much to rack up the points, you could always search for items at night when the talks aren't going on.

If you want an honest chance at winning, it does take a considerable amount of time. Most of our team had to man a vendor booth during the day, and we still had time to take in sites during the evenings, but we carefully planned a lot of our activities around what would also give us a chance to grab items from the list. In the end, we ended up doing a lot of fun things that we wouldn't have otherwise done (like visit that aquarium by WalMart that had the cool geeky manager with the prosthetic eye). Even if you don't put in the effort to win, you'll pick up some cool memories (like a fuzzy fish... umm... wait... I think we declined to take that back on account of the rotting stench).

and leave us not forget the new DC Dong! but I am sure that will make memories of it's own in time :D

and as far as time consumption goes just make sure you get on a good team.. that way no one person has to carry the bulk of the load.. or spend ALL thier time naked for that matter....

I submitted a few suggestions. Grifter, perhaps a list of items from years past could be put on the site? It'd help people think of things, as well as avoid item duplication.
