OnStep Mini PCB v2 power supply issue

After I found a post on YouTube that described and demonstrated 3D printed GEMs, I started researching the complexity of OnStep and creating a DIY GEM holder.
I am following the Mini-PCB version 2 approach. I got the PCB from EasyEDA and have ordered the BOM from two online stores (almost identical to the one mentioned in the EasyEDA page).
I purchased two Nema17 stepper motors with 100:1 planetary gearboxes: https://www.oyostepper.de/goods-319-...-Precisie.html
I noticed that the motors are rated at 2.7V and 1.68A per phase.
I originally wanted to power the OnStep Mini PCB v2 with 12V (because another motor I plan to buy is rated at 12V), but now I'm not sure.
Do I need to make any modifications to the power input or do I need to add some voltage regulator to the circuit to use these motors.

If this were my project, I would try to get 12v steppers. Remember, at a lower voltage (for the same power/torque) the 2.7v motor will require more current, so it's not just a matter of reducing the voltage.
