I just came across this thread and community. This is excellent. What documentation is needed to access HDA accommodations?

Kincaid I came across a post from Delchi in the defcon 31 hda forum. It was from July 28, 2023 where he responded to a similar question.

There is nothing to qualify for, unless you have a personal assistant. HDA exists to help make the con as a whole accessible. If you have a specific need or question you can ask me here or in a DM. You do not need a special badge or card to access the HDA community area. The goal of HDA is to make the overall con experience a good one.
hope this helps, but would like to hear from Delchi

Does anyone know if there was a group buy/event created with scootaround for rental scooters with the LVCC for DefCon? When I called them the other week, they weren't aware of the event and wouldn't drop off at hotel, and pick up at LVCC. I'm not clear by the LVCC's documentation if all other rental ADA/medically necessary scooters (not from scootaround) are not allowed, or if non-ADA/not medically necessary scooters/e-scooters/skateboards, etc that are expressly against LVCC regulations.
      Thanks!

        1. Scootaround does not do bulk buys
        2. They do not deliver, but they do pick up adn drop off at the LVCC
        3. LVCC does not allow scooters from other rental companies, however if you have one you own and it is medically required (right?!) they will allow it. LAst year my powerchair, and at least one attendees swegway were allowed.
        4. Not medically required, skateboards, e-scooters etc are not allowed by the LVCC rules.
        5. When you call scootaround ask them to be xfered to the LVCC location, they have more info than the generic 800 # call center.

Thanks for the heads up. scootaround must have given me bad information when I last called. I'll try again and ask to be transferred to the LVCC location.

They may not have given you wrong info, but info for their national number for national rentals. The LVCC in some cases has different policies.

This is an exciting start to the planning for DEF CON 33! The theme "Improvise, Adapt, Overcome!" perfectly captures the spirit of the HDA community, especially with the news of a relocation. Having Naomi Brockwell back for privacy education and the return of the open synth jam will definitely make for a high-energy atmosphere.

I've found that when dealing with significant shifts in event planning or venue changes—much like how I manage technical updates and site structures on this page—clear communication and "adapting" early is what ensures a smooth experience for everyone involved.
