Many know that the last few years (at least 4 now), I've been challenging people in the halls and villages to win something. Pins, Challenge Coins, etc. were handed out to many who won.
This year will be no exception. But there will be something new going to be available on a very limited basis. (read more below)
How it works, find me or I stop you in the hall and ask if you are up for a challenge. If you accept, the question asked can be related to Security, Infrastructure, Networking, Vulcan Mind Melds, Movies, Trivia, Star Wars, Hacking Movies, The Fifth Element and anything else that pops into my mind. You get the answer right, I hand something to you, congratulate you and wish you a great CON. Maybe even exchange contact information to meet up later for a drink & discussion. I've met incredible people from all over the world at DEFCON all because I dared to challenge 😉
Why did I start doing this ? Easy. All of the Talks, Presentations, Sky Talks, Villages and everything about DEFCON is amazing. But as an attendee for 17 or 18 years, I saw something that was lacking. What I saw was interaction with fellow attendees in the hallways. Interaction with perfect strangers who really are extended geek melded minds of myself. Not known because we pass each other in the hallways on our way to another Talk/Village/Event/LineCon. (lol). Sometimes we miss out on the best things in life on our way to something else.
See me? Stop me and ask for a challenge. Get the question right, you'll win something.
New item this year on an extremely limited basis.
As a joke in passing someone said to me recently "you're the subject of a Black Badge and people will be contacting you to ask you questions". LOL ! Love it.... wait. Black Badge? A CyberFreek Black Badge? Challenge accepted! When they run out, they are gone. I'll have a few each day of the CON IF you are up for a serious challenge. Not 1 or 2 questions.... but between 10 and 20 questions all must be answered correctly. Random subjects on Security, Protocols, Networking, Systems and who knows what. Maybe some trick questions also? These are engraved anodized aluminum on a lanyard. Nothing special, no electronics...yet. The back is part of the CyberFreek Creed. But if I can get funding for next year, I'll gather up some resources and make up an electronic badge as the Official CyberFreek Black Badge. Who knows where this will go.
How to find me? Look for the Hat! As I write this, there are only 2 people in all of DEFCON that wear this style of Hat. One with a feather in it, the other not. I'm the one with Feathers in it. (Its old fashioned but tradition states that once you achieve a milestone, you can put a Feather in in your Cap. Read more here from Wikipedia)
This year, there was a major upgrade to the Hat. You'll see ;)
Cheers and enjoy ALL that DEFCON has to offer!
Looking forward to the Challenges of DEFCON. Cheers!
