Web Updates
- We have a new website name: dcgulfcoast.org, but dc850.org will redirect to it. The email address remains the same.
- We have a LinkTree directing to all recovered social media accounts so far. (I keep finding new ones - the old group created a lot)
- The website is not yet built. We're working on it.
- There are many plans for the GitHub and we don't know where to start
- We are working on getting the non profit registration completed. There is a large "to do" list currently shared with DCG admins to ensure it meets DCG guidelines as well as Florida State Statutes (Note: if you are an admin for DEFCON and would like to review these plans before they are implemented, please let me know)
- Current classification, due to it being "exclusively for charitable, educational, and scientific purposes", is a 501(c)3 corporation. Details for transparency purposes will be provided to the public in accordance with Florida public record laws and DCG Guidelines. This may be provided by links to the public records database for the relevant entity, such as Sunbiz or The IRS.
- We will have a P.O. box address in Pensacola, but we hope to expand our events, meetings, and other fun throughout the entire Gulf Coast as per our group name. If you're in another county or city within our area code (850) please contact us to discuss meeting arrangements for your area so we can assist or support.
- Charitable considerations, which are not currently "set in stone", include food drives, school supply drives, scholarships for training courses or certifications, and scholarships to send 1-2 students to the Las Vegas DEFCON conference each year. We may change this as we go based on community needs and available funds.
- We are currently running a 7-day poll via Discord and Twitter, which began today, to determine the best routine for future meetings. At the moment, the highest votes are for Wednesdays or Saturdays, monthly, in the afternoons.
- We are working with The UWF Center For Cybersecurity to set up our first meeting there within Nov-Dec 2025
- Meetings ideas are so far planned to include CTFs, speaker series, game nights, and movie nights.
- We may collaborate with other local groups who share common interests. There is a section in our discord specifically for other local communities to help you engage with them. (Our goal is to support each other!)
