Yes anyone is aloud to stay at the hotel while the con is going but be warned the rates are higher during the con and the place is a 24/7 party.

Actually, that's not true. I quote from http://www.defcon.org/html/defcon-11...n-11-faqs.html

"The Alexis Park Hotel and Resort is across the street from the Hard Rock Hotel, and is a block off the main strip. Located at 375 East Harmon Ave in Las Vegas, NV 89109. The Alexis Park is a non gambling hotel, so people 18 years and older can get a room there.

For DEF CON 11, to be on the hotel property you MUST have a DC 11 badge. This is a requirement of the hotel to cut down on locals just "passing through", and causing problems."

So if you want to be on the AP grounds you must have a badge.

Also, it sounds like your wife is just wanting to take a trip to Vegas. As I understand it, Defcon isn't Vegas. It's Defcon.

So I'm thinking, and this is just a guess here, but if you want to keep that wife of yours, I'd plan *two* trips to Vegas. :)

interesting relationship, I didn't think people that hated computers still existed... at least since I stopped communicating with them so long ago.

I recall one waste of a relationship ended with an ex (though not at the time) threatening to put my hardware in a bathtub full of water... let me tell you that relationship ended within nanoseconds of acknowledging what she had said.

its by far more then a block from the strip.
you would think that AP would make exceptions for guests staying there that are not part of the con.

The board here said that for DCX that badges would be needed to be on the hotel grounds. It was never enforced.

Also I have an out. I am bringing teo family mmebers, and we reserved the room BEFORE the Defcon dates were announced, therefore we should be treated as regular hotel guests. DT did not get every single room in the hotel for Defcon, I think a few slipped through, like me. :D

You'll need the badge to get into the conference rooms but there are a few ways to get around without a badge...not to rip off the Defcon show but just to navigate the hotel when you are not attending.

hey, that sounds like a challenge to me... spot the non-dc-attendee

Well not having a badge would be a big clue.

spotting them wouldn't be the challenge, enforcing it would :)

just stay at a hotel other than the AP. your wife would probably be happier having a hotel attached to a casino any ways. plus it saves you $75 bucks and you cand find cheaper rates in better hotels....
