The CCIE test is fun, if you're into tests. Configure a whole bunch of weird shit you'll never see in the real world (you hope), with a time limit, and the knowledge that someone paid $1250 for this little game, and expects not to have wasted it (especially if that someone is you).
Everyone should do it at least once.
Is it worth it? Sure, if you can get an employer to pay for it. CCIEs don't generally get $125k+ like they used to, but it sure helps in getting jobs during a crappy economy.Comment

I plan on trying for my CCNA before I graduate from high-school just for fun. I just dont think I could hold that much knowledge for the CCIE test.The penguin is watching.

Don’t forget, if you go the Cisco route you have to re-qualify every 3 years for the cert to stay valid. At least CompTIA is vendor neutral and lasts as long as the cert is recognized by the industry, do the research.
A+, Network+, Linux+, and Security+ all show you have at least an alimentary knowledge of the information covered by the test domains. The A+ and Network+ are both accepted as prerequisites for the MCSA leaving you with only 3 $125 tests to pass (without a voucher). As soon as you pass one of the three MSCA tests you get to call yourself a MCP. So you immediately get something to stick on the resume. After that, get a job and make the employer pay. Otherwise you are wasting your money.
