The below thread is the result of a bunch of Defcon folks hanging out for a couple days. ALL local folks are welcome for the next event, I want to cross-post it here to see if there is any local interest. E-mail me for the source link and replies, if interested.
COON CON I
Sept 5-7, 2003
Attendance: A.S.T., Aimskers (ast's better half), Kelvin, Petrol, Lost_Soul, two purebread schnauzers, a mutt and a tortoise.
Equipment: Night vision scopes, crossbow, pellet guns, BB guns, Image Stabilization binoculars, a corkscrew, Krispy Kremes, the latest 2600 magazine, camoflauge, FRS radios, lots of ammo, a digital camera, tons of food, a case of Red Bull, some cigarettes and a whole lot of beverages. (Someone forgot to bring the raccoons)
Schedule: Hunt, eat pizza, hunt, drink, shoot, plink, hunt, eat burgers, take pictures, talk about guns, eat grilled cheese, save the dogs from other animals, talk about electronics and computers, watch midget videos, and sleep. Well, maybe not sleep.
Results: No dead coons, but we did think about doing a special IVU event: Irvine UnderWater. Yup, a group dive. Who's certified?
For those who were not here, this felt like the Sunday night party at Defcon, except that no one ended up in a pool with all their gear, and our party lasted DAYS! From Friday night to Sunday afternoon we had a GREAT time and want to do it again. The energy here was incredible. Even though there were only five of us, it felt like there were 25. We all had so much energy and clicked that we were on a roll all day and all night long. We were so energetic that we had to drink Red Bull to calm us down. Since we don't want to wait a whole year we will have "CCv1.25" in about 3 months. We may be snowed in then as well, you never know. But that won't stop us. We have enough room to sleep about eight, plus we have a tent and a hammock.
Kelvin, thanks for the great talk and keeping me thinking on my feet! We'll await your input for our deck construction. Enjoy the videos, they are as rare as some of the links that I find. The other movie you wanted to see was "Being There."
LS: Send me that pdf book! Thanks for the weapons education, you could have been the firearms advisor for Pulp Fiction. :> Send me them pics we shot. I guess I will need a card reader for Sony!
Petrol: Your gun ROCKS! I will have to get me one. I'll find the link for the BB machine pistol and post it later. You were quiet most of the time here, but you never seemed bored for a second. I guess being quiet comes in handy since you need silence and patience for the hunt. It sure paid off!
Lessons learned: Everyone needs at least two firearms. Not everyone knows how to use a corkscrew. GEN 1 night vison sucks. Straight arrows are hard to find. Don't shoot near the cars. Homes here are inexpensive enough to go on a credit card. Doves are not the same as Blue Jays. Remember to defrost the steaks on Friday night instead of remembering about them on Sunday after everyone leaves!
Thanks a lot everybody! You made this a great weekend for us!!!!!
