Me, being the media whore that I am, got local channel 5 to interview me during con 11. They kept asking about "hackers", and how bad they are. I kept responding with "oh, CRACKERS, and how they hide out during con, not reviling who they are". And the lady just got pissed. They ended up editing my interview, and saying "people can get credit card stole if they check into hotels from the internet", even though my speech was WAR driving (well not driving) a hotel from lobby and getting cards.

    Bunch of crap, the media.

Oh they give a fuck, just not about the truth. They certainly give a fuck about circulation and profit. And how do you get that? Ask P.T. Barnum (if you could), or Jerry Springer, or Howard Stern, or a campaign manager--the kings of the lowest common denominator. Pander to fear or schadenfreude.

I always kinda thought that type of an attack was ususally done by script kiddies, not hackers.
Can't an IGMP response be disabled anyway?

Perhaps script kiddies should be targeted as the BAD GUY. LOL!
That is the commercial I was talking about.. good to know I did not dream it!
Yankee is right, they do give a fuck about about one thing: ratings. FUD drives ratings, therefor they will sling as much of it out there as possible. I am sure news folks across the US got a hard-on during Sept. 11, because they knew their jobs were set for years. It is no different for computers, if the media and marketing folks can convince everyone that "evil hackers" and "cyberterrorists" can ruin society, the sheeple will flock to the TV to watch it, and flock to the stores to shell out big $$$ for "anti-hacker ware".

Good more money for someone to hire me now.. :)
Kraa: You are Slackware Linux. You are the brightest among your peers, but are often mistaken as insane. Your elegant solutions to problems often take a little longer, but require much less effort to complete.

            Cisco Commercials

I've seen the commercials too/two. The first talks about 3 hackers being jailed. The second talks about a group of network engineers and a group of hackers all doing nothing. The theme is 'self repairing networks' or something like that.

I don't bother with TV at home, I'm always at the computer. I took a vacation recently and saw both these on a Florida news station.
