First of all, thanks to everyone who helps out in these forums. They are an awesome place to look for answers to the not so common questions that wandering minds often ponder. I greatly appreciate everyone's help, I've learned quite a few things without even making a post. Now for the nitty gritty.
I have been trying to learn how networks operate from the outside looking in. I have a few questions that I can't quite figure out, but maybe all you people who work from inside a network, or have access to one, can help me with.
In a hypothetical scenario, lets say I'm a journalist for a newspaper, and that I have a giant story to finish by the morning, and I get home and realize i left my disc at the office with a large chunk of my assignment on it, but the file is also contained on my PC at work which is connected to the webserver. If I know the IP address of the webserver, and the name of the PC I used at work, how would I connect to the webserver and pinpoint my machine?
Also, scenario aside; if i have access to a server that is networked to a vast number of workstations, is there a way I can copy the same file to all of them without having the hassle of doing it one machine at a time?
Thanks again, to anyone who repiles.
