  • Proxy Servers

I realize this sounds like a very script kiddie-ish question, but,
What would a good proxy server to use for a small(40-80 computer) network be? I've been looking at all sorts of Proxies for Linux, and some for Windows NT, but none really sticks out as the best choice.

It all depends on what you want to do with it, but squid has served me well in the past.

I'll be using it to scan through requests on my schools network(I'm the assistant to my Schools Sys. Admin), and make sure everyone is making valid requests. We've been having alot of trouble with people using P2P programs on ports allowed by our firewall. Extensive logging features would also be handy.

my school and I had a little tiff, I wanted to visit sites that say....they didnt want me on. I made up a little site a while back that was for me and my classmates, it is tailored to my old school, but you can use it to its at www.ck3k.org/help.html

my old school admin loved to mess with me, I was told I was playing "games" with his network, which at the time I said I wasnt, but I am sure I was.

lol, that sounds very familiar. In the 8th grade I was kicked out of my computer lab for 2 months for changing all the things our typing program told us to type. Teachers don't generally like 120 students typing, "Mrs. Osbourne is a cocksucker.".
Luckily, it appears that I'm on the admins good side now. Which is even better, because now I can have alot more fun with the network. :)

Thats a handy site. I'll make sure to tell some of my friends about it. I'm tired of having to disable their blocking because they are reasearching a paper about Breast Cancer, or Sexual Addiction. I even got blocked for doing research on the EFF. Why would the EFF be blocked....

Heh, I used to do something like that. My IT guy liked me because I opted to have my elective period doing stuff he didnt have time for (basically his assistant), so he let me use the internet freely through his machine whenever he was not on it. Everyone knows how much geeks need unfiltered internet access, and maybe once every few days wasnt working out. This was when I found cgiProxy. I know this isnt related to the original post, but it follows recent posts.

Thankfully I am at a high school now that is geared towards young people like most of us were, and do not impose the typical restrictions on its students. They trust us not to fuck everything up, and in return we get what other kids in the district cannot have.

Unfortunatly i go to a school full of script kiddies and idiots who mess things up.
I remember we used to have unrestricted access in the 6th grade, but around 7th they suddenly decided that They were tired of kids purusing and downloading music during study halls.
                idiots.
