  • linux driver for Airport Extreme

    Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has seen any linux Drivers for the Airport Extreme

I have had my powerbook for a few months now and been searching for a driver so I can install Debian but as yet have found nothing.

Last thing I found was that the manufacturer Broadcom were not releasing any info about the chipset?

    cheers,

    Rez

I don't know the Airport Extreme, but if you know it is a Broadcom card then you are correct. They are not releasing any Linux drivers and have no plans to.

I have a Broadcom built in a/b/g card (Truemobile 1400) on my laptop and am in the same boat for Linux. To be fair though...the card sucks so even if there was I driver I'd still be using my Orinoco Gold. I was standing less than 3 feet from my AP and had about a 30% packet loss with the the Truemobile 1400.
    perl -e 'print pack(c5, (41*2), sqrt(7056), (unpack(c,H)-2), oct(115), 10)'

iirc, there is a project that is working on the driver somewhere out there.. or maybe that was just a rumor? I haven't checked into it because I'm still behind on the 'aquiring' portion of my powerbook.
if it gets me nowhere, I'll go there proud; and I'm gonna go there free.

Here is a petition to sign for broadcom http://www.petitiononline.com/BCM4301/petition.html and also one project for the AE driver is here http://www.binaervarianz.de/projekte...mieren/kismac/ you will have to look around alittle bit but it is there I believe.

Hello. I am running into the same issue that you are having. I have just tried to install KisMAC on a PowerBook G4 15'' running OS X 10.3.1. I am able to use only the PsuedoJack driver at this time.(limited) If anyone knows of a better wireless driver that is "G" capable then please let me know.
