  • Driver issues

I recently made the mistake of buying a cheap sound card. After attempting to install the drivers that came with it I realizes that the drivers are not compatible with Win 2000. I went to the mfg. web site and downloaded drivers that allegedly worked with 2000, they didn't. It did however manage to install some sort of audio software that embeded an icon into my control panel and toolbar. When I click on either icon nothing happens. When I try to uninstall, nothing happens. I want to rid myself of the software and both of the icons but can't. Any suggestions?

    1. this is now win help hotline

    2. pull out your card, look at what chip it uses to drive the audio, attempt to find drivers for the chip.

3.buy a better, less crappy card.

    4.dont use windows

Since the only thing you suggested is something I've already done. (that would be solution #2), nothing you suggested is of any help. But thanks for playing.

I'll give that a try. If that doesn't work, I'm going to toss this card out. It really didn't cost me anything so its no big deal. As far as the icons on my toolbar and in control panel, any suggestions as to how I get rid of them?

        Thanks for the help

You could check to see if your motherboard is configured properly. Check to see if the jumper/dip switch settings are correct. If there is an on board sound card you will need to disable it. Another possibility, some sound cards require speakers that have their own power supply. I believe Creative SoundBlaster speakers are like that.

          Just a thought. Good luck!
